had a friend do that in one a year ago, hates it, hard to get on plane and gained very little @ WOT

it all depends on where your prop shaft is now. If it is 7 inches deep then going up to 5 is not going to make much of a change in planing. It will make a huge change in handling and you will not need to trim as much for top speed. IF you are at 5 inches and go to 3 inches it WILL make a huge change in getting on plane and you will probably have to add a blade to your prop. Or like in my case I increased the negative trim to aid in planing. ( it made a huge difference )

The higher you go, the cooler it looks on the trailer!

Notch transom? Step bottom?

After doing a bunch of forum lurking and reading up, I think I'm going to raise the engines up a total of 2 inches. From others ive found that have done the same I dont think i will have too much negative effect on the boat. The shop replacing the transum is going to make new taller stringers as well for the engine lift.

Sounds like a good plan. Should make for a better handling boat when at WOT.

While you are doing glass work, depending on your intended set-up, you may want to consider getting rid of the "wedges" in the bottom.

i would want an exact drive height now from the shop who is doing the glass work.
that way you could post on this thread, there at x inches now, how far should i go when the time comes?

i'd want centerlines as well

Mistake or missing something

Well after a repower from tired 350s to 383s with decent cams, vortec scorpion mpi, new everything, straight thru exhaust, drive height -2 with engine raise and running bravo 1 24 four blade we gained a net of 4 mph. Went from 64ish to 69 mph after changes. Im learning the mefi burn software and was able to get full throttle end of season with safe o2 readings at a max RPM of 4850 to 4900. Ive been racking my brain holding back on posting results....but at this point im asking for help.. ideas or input all welcome.
