well "ole rickity" didn't bust a sweat, but i was a mess the chainfall had about an inch left
and the engine cleared by an rch
had great people on hand and the engine got shoe horned in
looks like the front side to side brace on the engine hatch will have to be notched out for the +6 exhaust.

^^ "ole rickety" got beefed up and raised 10 inches

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...667b7ed475.jpg

^^ the easy bake oven shop crane rolled it out @ full extension 1/4 ton

12 inches from crank pulley to floor

21 1/2 inches from the stringers to the sides of the boat

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...21f647b97c.jpg

tons of clearance for cool full, sea pump and scheduled maintenance

outonsafari 06-02-2018 05:51 PM

the nylon straps you see in some of the pics are from this thing called a ridgeline
picked it from amazon and have been using for a couple months with zero
complaints or issues. i added those vent caps and got a longer pole.
not affiliated in any way, just a good product that works as advertised

outonsafari 06-17-2018 05:49 PM

just got back into town, the pics are all prior to leaving
except the header install, that was today.
more screwed up expensive stuff what a cluster !

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...3af8e0ca85.jpg

steering wheel and adapter donated by class 6. thanks buddy !

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...250bf248bb.jpg

footrests had to be cut down flush to what is in the pics or they are to tall

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...eefb5ef8bc.jpg

all i did was roll on epoxy, they get screwed down and seadek goes on top

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...2e11dc047f.jpg

before, after 20 couple years

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...4ded14f502.jpg

this is one pass w/ the buffer and vibracut. it's all product i have no idea how to do it right

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...50d82ec75e.jpg

kinda see the difference before the port side was done

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e41a6a46bf.jpg

again, one pass w/ the vibracut.

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...dea62a3e89.jpg

headers on today

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...3616b59daa.jpg

hard to see but they are not the same distance away from the crank and they don't point straight to the transom either

starboard angle

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...085238a2c0.jpg

port angle almost 3 1/2 degrees difference. the difference over 30 inches the tails have to run has to be significant, guess the pipes will look like pretzels. but for 4 grand what what do you expect.

no limits 06-18-2018 11:02 PM

Man....
i remeber this race boat
wasnt it built in Massachusetts or Maine..., something like that
raced around 1994, 1995? And yep remember it had a 4 or 5 drive
very cool!

outonsafari 06-19-2018 10:33 PM

hin is 95, it is on a list for the 95 season as well. (attached oso link)
it was built up north and was rigged w/ a blower motor and #5 on an extension box.

unfortunately the only video is point pleasant on vhs,
must have pretty tough mounting camcorders on the boats back then

payuppsucker 06-20-2018 07:00 AM

Man I know you've put a ton of work in this thing but it's gonna be a super nice piece when you're finished.

outonsafari 06-27-2018 05:17 PM

^^^ thanks pay up, appreciate the thumbs up.
coming along slow and steady, think it's down to sea strainer, steering hose and wiring, which 95 percent of is original and goes back into original location

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...cb482bc6f0.jpg

made a template

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...12f257959f.jpg

got the tank

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...1122e3a0f1.jpg

w/ a mechanical gauge and 2 pickups 1/2 inch

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...95ac1d2b19.jpg

glue on the rubber strips, ya know ! in the living room where else ?

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...c49bbe2ca1.jpg

final prep of the space

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e9739dcacd.jpg

all lined up to drill the mounting holes

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...3e78028e2b.jpg

the spacers are 5200'd onto the stringers, in a few days the bolts get pulled and the nut and bolt ends get 4000 to seal it off. on the nut side are those 1/4 inch aluminum backing washers made with a hole saw, they are on every thru bolt thru out the boat.

outonsafari 06-27-2018 05:27 PM

footrests and seadek

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...786e816fc9.jpg

drive lube plumbed in and the first cushion clamp was screwed on 2 times, so the hole was just right for 5200 to go in it (about 100 more to go)

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...71bdff50c3.jpg

mock up seastrainer fits w/ a couple inches all around, guess it better get ordered up

jeff32 06-27-2018 05:41 PM

Nice work! Coming along very nicely!

endeavour32 07-21-2018 09:03 PM

I agree, the boat is looking really nice!

outonsafari 08-29-2018 02:04 PM

Its no powerplay wiring job, but i tried pretty hard.
Tough to get good under dash shots, but it looks nicer than the pics show.

There are 3 circuits, 2 from the battery switch, one for the accy's, the second just runs up to the dash and stops at the terminal connector, pop a fuse in it and add on.
The third is the engine harness and its only used for the ignition.
The circuits are marked at the battery switch and under the dash with red yellow and green zip ties.
The red zip tie on the fuse and the fuse for that matter at the battery switch both have to come off
since the harness is the third circuit

Thanks, i look at the pictures more than the boat, for some reason the camera really makes it pop

In person it looks like the tuesday afternoon lineup at the strip club over by
the airport.

jeff32 09-06-2018 10:40 PM

Nice job again! The toughest job is to keep it in like new condition while rigging! Oil spills, scealant, foot prints, tools... but you seem to know how to do it!!!

Lol! The yellow really does look awesome.

I’ll never forget the day after I got mine painted, there were two big bubbles under the paint that formed while drying that looked like tumors that really pissed me off

class6 09-09-2018 11:45 AM

Awesome Job Dan!

GCMSINC 09-09-2018 12:49 PM

Nice neat wiring and rigging. Certainly a project to be proud of!

outonsafari 09-18-2018 04:11 PM

Thanks guys
appreciate the moral support, the last push was tough.
A week ago i was ready to part it out, the aggravation mellowed into just getting rid of the engine
Today its running, fingers crossed the fun work of testing and propping it can get started.

IGetWet 09-18-2018 08:03 PM

What?! What happened?

jeff32 09-18-2018 08:36 PM

I don't get it either! why so close to the end you would want to part it out? i can lend you my untouched chriscat project so you can remember what you have been thru and I'M sure you will suddenly say , hell ! I'm almost boating so just keep it up !!!

You are there now! Enjoy the run soon !

outonsafari 09-18-2018 08:50 PM

Nothing really happened, it was the last few items and several small details that needed ironing out all the while
soaking wet with sweat, slipping and sliding all over the boat, constantly wiping everything down
followed by about 4 oz of power steering fluid that squirted out of the cap all over me and the floor
while turning the steering wheel on my knees.
Getting in and out a hundred times for a metric deep well, what i was supposed to be installing
or to get dry clothes towels and more water
4 1/2 days of looking for an electrical problem that didnt exist, i left the big 'go no where' wire harness
On the top of the engine off and it wouldnt start. In fact now im wondering if the ground ring on it should attached
it looks like it was.

All my fault, but today with a hose in a 5 gallon gas tank on a ladder next to the boat the engine
is running smooth, sounding good, pumping water very well and has good throttle response.

justintocars 09-18-2018 09:27 PM

Boat is looking great! All you have left is the the fun but annoying stuff. Much better to cean oil and Chase wires than grind and sand glass all day :)

rak rua 09-18-2018 09:36 PM

It's alive! Sounds great and looks sensational. The hard stuff is done, soon you can start enjoying all your great work.
Thank you for all the updates,

RR

Yea, what my mate from Thailand said.......nice job!!!!

outonsafari 09-19-2018 07:17 PM

call jimmy the greek, place your bets now ! vegas is taking odds on whats going to fail next for no apparent reason.

so by the book with an inch pound torque wrench, a new mercury impellor and after running for about 10 minutes yesterday, today it wont pump water.

3/4 id hose on full. All vanes on impellor but pump and hose has little rubber crumbs all over it.

new hardin sea pump w/ pulley on way along with gaskets and orings for the heat exchanger incase the crumbs made it that far.

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...6002f46cca.jpg

IGetWet 09-19-2018 07:29 PM

Hmm. Was the motor turned over at all during the time you working on the rest of the boat? Possibly it dried out then after spinning for a while yesterday it broke apart?

outonsafari 09-19-2018 09:20 PM

Sea pump was rebuilt with new impellor last week.
Gotta be a volume issue with the garden hose even tho its 3/4
or the earmuffs.
Dont know size from street but there is 3/4 line all the way thru for the hose bib.
have to find a way to run for flushing and still need to bleed the steering

rak rua 09-19-2018 09:44 PM

Water volume issue.....
Has the drive got the low water pick up holes in the nose? You haven't made a silly mistake and forgotten to block/cover them when flushing on the muffs?
Even with the average water pressure at my marina, I don't have a problem flushing a 496.

RR

.

outonsafari 09-20-2018 12:52 PM

No low water pick up,
have redundancy checklists for wiping my butt,
Nasa launches a bazillion dollar rocket with less scrutiny then i'd push the start button on my boat
So no i made sure good water was getting to sea pump

Team Archer 09-24-2018 01:39 PM

Are you running a seastrainer between the drive and the water pump? if so you might want to consider but a fitting in the seastrainer for flushing system we have found the trying to pull water all the way from the drive thru a strainer is hard for the water pump to handle. Regards Dan

That's funny but I can totally relate. If somebody had a camera videoing us in our engie compartments it would make a good TV show. All kinds of drama happens there that nobody ever sees lol.

Quinlan 09-24-2018 05:01 PM

I know This ^^^^^^. One time i dropped the power steering res cap in the bilge of my 29 Outlaw of course out on the water.
Friend and I had to hold wife Upside down by her legs to grab it :flag:

No sea strainer, it didnt fit
Intake hose has to be removed for flushing.
The modified earmuffs i'm 50-50 on since they dont seal.
