i installed a ball valve inside the boat and hook the garden hose on a feed line in front of the ball valve and it is so easy! time to do it while you are in there!
|
Jeff id like to put exactly what your describing in my boat.
Wouldnt want to keep switching connections back and forth for flushing I wasnt 100 percent sold on the hopped up earmuffs. The guy in plumbing at lowes set me right up (see pic). When the hose is turned on the water gets thru the sea pump fills up the raw water side all the way thru and comes out of the exhaust. It pumped real well so i let it run and checked for leaks. The engine maintained 168 degrees, and sounded much better than it did last time First time turning the wheel with engine running and happy to report no funny noises From the gimbal/ujoints Bled steering twice each way and turned back and forth no less than 40 times. Have nice solid stop left and right but would bet it still has some air. The steering is fast 1 3/4 turns lock to lock, not sure how thats gonna be Ready for water any day, be going in w/o hatch or firewall. Need registration sticker and it'll be just legal, just ! https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...cc80a55617.jpg |
"The steering is fast 1 3/4 turns lock to lock, not sure how thats gonna be"
I would be very careful with the steering being that sensitive, 3 to 3.5 turns hard over to hard over is well within the range of control ability. Too quick causes over correction and may out run the steering pump flow rate and too many turns lock to lock will be to slow to counter correct. |
Tank slapper was my first thought at 1 3/4 turns. The helm came with the boat, and i just reused it.
The drive was on an extension box and a pair long cyls where mounted way outboard on the transom. I'll have to get a new helm after the drive break in period, 10 hrs, but will have to be sure of the part # its ready to go in the water and im dying to see it float |

Rak, i cant wait to get in the water, it's like chrissy eve around here, be sleeping w/ one eye open for that first stream of light.
Weighed it then put 20 gallons in it, 65 gal tank but want to mark the gauge since it's mechanical and need a reference point. https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/...ml#post4652095 |
I put a Perko flush kit on my boat and it was the most loving thing I’ve ever done for myself. I don’t like the plastic Perko valve though and replacing it with a normal tee so it back flush the bravo as well. The Perko doesn’t let water back out the drive. It’s also easier to winterize with the hose fitting instead of muffs. SS T Fitting 1 1/4"H X 3/4"H - Marine Industries West |
First time in the water since 96'
Everything went as planned, no issues w/ launch & recover, no leaks, no vibrations, ran real nice. Cant wait to get it back in the water. Thanks for all the support tips advice and help along the way, transom video next time. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...022c400868.jpg |
well deserved!

All those photos and stories from the engine bay, I'd forgotten the boat is white! Looks great, happy to read she ran nicely. RR . |
Dang that thing is sexy. You did and awesome job. Now get out there and burn some gas!
|
I love the all white and the cool thing about it is if you ever want to add some graphics you can just do something in vinyl.

all ducky
First off, thank you for the kind words and thumbs up you put out there after the first test run.
Was a long process that i'm greatfull for both getting the boat and being able to do the work to get to this point. So weather has kept it out of the water plus the hatch needs to go on because of salt spray. Being lazy, if the hatch went on now who knows if the ducts would ever get done. Off the crappy molds i made a while back, over the weekend i pulled 6 real nice ducts, each with 2 layers of 1700 and ran out of the ve resin so the last 2 are 635 epoxy. The 2 epoxy ducts go into the firewall and just get bilge paint, they fit flat so these will be screwed down, worst case they can get bonded on with some mat later. The other 4 go into the hatch corners, and i want them glassed in place, resin and gel are on the way. More body/finish work, i suck at it but i think they look better that way. Had to put in a pic of the living room wall, i havent seen it in over a year since the hatch and firewall have been leaning on it all this time. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...aac94c8c81.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...129d752661.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...40578a0658.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ea35f83660.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...4163c356fb.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...7d4b22fb71.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...047fd2ee2c.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...36e934c5cb.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...245eaf0d92.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...8287fc6405.jpg |
Looking great! Glad to read of your putting it in the water. You have meticulously built a beautiful boat. We’re gonna have to all get together one day when we have all our boats going. |
engine hatch do over
A lot of work, boarded down ok, better than i thought but not pro by any means.
had to sand down to 1500 to find imperfections and thin spots. Its going together and back in the water as is, will have to practice touch up or re shoot in a couple months. Promised the guy i bought the boat from to bring it up, i think we're both chomping at the bit. Got some good advice that was greatly appreciated. https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/...-guidance.html https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...cf5bcf507b.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...29a74eafbf.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...0a11ce7a47.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a200b32225.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...177366eff8.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...0a506b7060.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...38abfdf320.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...2c183f0f64.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...fa5f2a20b9.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...915e3b43e8.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...b0597244db.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...bd3cf6e0c0.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...7f59ee5a41.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...65ac2cdf19.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...9ec57be233.jpg |
Nice work! |
Fine job my friend. |
Boats covered in gelcoat dust from the cover down, needs a bath before it goes back in the salt. Thin spots and other issues, the hatch is 100 times better than it was in the beginning of this thread, At least it fits in the hole.https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...49968c645f.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a7f03da41c.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...31cae7ad5a.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a6f4bb577d.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ab460a447f.jpg |
trapped underneath to get a picture !!! I feel passion from that picture !!!
Nice work ! |
Ok in the water today, with indicators this time. Problem is the new dash is too thick for the little spring loaded plastic buttons, they keep popping out. No problem, bust out the wood lathe and make new ones, a little resin and some custom paint work and nobody's the wiser. 26 foot long cable routed thru port tube and lined up nice with the other cables that all run in pairs https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...55b7fd18aa.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...b215cbdb2d.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...8c30a846f8.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...fdee18fdcc.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a990f75b48.jpg |

Great weather today, 74* little wind 1 foot or less chop, boat ran great, the electronic gismos not so much.
With the 23 mirage plus @ 5k the boat goes 66 gps, i can ease the throttle up to 5150 then still have an inch of throw left. Safe to say the 25 mirage plus should be happy. Boat doesnt like trim, anything past parrallel it starts losing speed, but didnt keep going up, just tapped it back down. This is with the engine moved a foot forward, probably be worse if it was located stock, had the option to go 2 feet forward in the beginning of this whole thing but that would've cost minimum 20 gallons of gas and the standing room behind the bolsters. Boat likes port tab, needs it at anything over 26-2800 rpm all the way up to 5k, into or with the wind. Not happy about that. The ducts work, with the wingnuts holding the firewall closed taken off, the air coming in blows it open soon as it hops up on plane. Have these knock off gopros both with remote, 1 camera wont upload to youtube (settings) the other 1 only recorded once and it should have been mounted lower Warning, youll never get these 3 minutes back |
Sounds Great Dan. Boat looks awesome. The fun in the video starts at about 1:43.

Hey Dan, thanks again for the cover, if you’re not gaining any speed above neutral with the 3 blade you’re going to need to add a blade. Even though if you’re tach is right you’re under 12 percent slip. Having that port list A lefty prop will help that a ton. I have setup some 23 wellcraft novas that had that exact problem until we went with a lefty, they both had the Propshaft around 5” below the bottom . I have a 25 rev 4 righty and a 24 bravo one righty just let me know and I’ll ship either one to you to try. The rev 4 will give you all the bow lift you would want. I think you’re on the right track. |
Thank you, want to see a pic of that cover once you get it installed.
In the water today, 1 foot chop, temp maybe 70, tabs full up and a little more trim ran much better, and a little faster. Not much lean at all, was probably doing something wrong last time, (actually kinda know what i did) 4th time in the water so still have to learn how to drive it, or what it really likes i guess. Still the camera and mercmonitor fiasco, had 2 cameras test fine and neither recorded when they were needed. Mercmonitor doesnt show air temp, no beep and scrolling thru it while flushing the engine now its really screwed up, tri screen to fullscreen and back, think its in night mode now, video tutorial and real life, one things got nothing to do with the other. Merry Christmas |

Thanks mike, ive heard the rev 4 was a good prop and appreciate the offer.
Have a 25 mirage plus going in for some work ( its not tracking 100*) if it holds the engine back at wot then i can start figuring things out since the 23 mirage plus will over rev Engines a 496 and tach is mercmonitor so should/better be accurate. |
Really Great work! |
I am in Michigan with 4 boats under shrinkwrap. Normally on Sunday I am depressed because the Lions are losing. Today they win big and my depression comes from making it to the end of this thread. Boat is awesome. Fantastic work! Help a brother out, get that gopro working and lets here some more of that exhaust.

a leak and how i found it.
First off, thumbs up for the above comments, appreciate it.
Spare you the back story on why i didnt want to re install the kplanes, but there they are. So boat on trailer kplanes hold water when full up, tilt them down a bit to drain, go for a ride forget to lift them and boat needs extra port tab to level off, oops my bad. Raise them go for a ride, dont need tab, even better. Come back pull the plug get a cup and a 1/2 of water. Double check the boat, high and dry, go for a ride come back, same thing, WTF. Double check the boat, neighbor drives, crawl back there, nothings dripping, come back, same thing, WTF Line the engine room with towels, stuff the drain holes with rags go for a ride, far outboard starboard towels a little wet, huh no salt stains anywhere WTF, what am i missing. 5th time in for no reason raise the tabs right at the dock, go back to turn on the transom cam look down the duct and there it is, water coming in the only place i thought didnt need sealant, the m-effin kplane indicator cable. Turns out when the tabs are full up the cable is not aligned in the grommet, plus the new cables are a little smaller o.d. than the red jackets. Pulled it out took it home, pulled the cables, pulled the bolts, all bolts good. Steamed for 2 days almost took the effin kplanes off and in the effin trash, but cooler heads prevailed, got some good advice, (thanks dan) tabs still on bolt holes cleaned, re sealed re torqued goop everywhere. tommorow all the brand new cable thru hardware, grommets, clips, retaining nuts and even the cable hole is gonna get overkill filled with the goop. Thank god every thru hole on the transom got soaked with epoxy before the parts where installed. On a lighter note, the metal grates got swapped out for the other fiberglass ducts i made, saved 12 1/2 ounces so looking for more speed in 7 days after the goop is fully cured. The pics are before the disassembly, anyone else think i might as well re check everything else, i gooped the sh*t out of everything (except transom assembly) during installion and thought i had it right. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e3cd3c4d96.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e234134120.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...310ab9bdfc.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...bfc76fc794.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...5dae5f595a.jpg |
Ballard park to sebastian inlet and back, 1 lap only because the k plane cable thru hulls are still leaking.
I have one thing to to say to old man 'K' " f -u and the leaky kplanes you rode into town on " Condition , glass - 6 inches, wind northerly around 8-9, air temp 76. Sunny and awesome Port kplane stuck in the full up position, f-u mr. K, f-u ! 25 mirage plus just back from f&j, confirmed stock, standard finish. South run at wot 5150-5160 leaning way over to port, need tab but North run from inlet out in the open, into wind and waves alot less lean more trim ran better Between the 2 videos air temp in engine room went back down to 76 while at speed Next time ill run just an temp video to see how long it takes, maybe for laughs a ribbon test on the hatch. Both videos are north runs, transom cam failed again, even after i went for a swim to turn it on between videos |
2nd run north between the causeways at ballard park.

First pic is here the trim was for the above videos. Rest of the pics are all about having a head full of bad wiring, and setting the bunks. Boat has to be loaded on the trailer w/in 1/2 inch everytime or i get no sleep, its even marked. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...cb38895841.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...dfb1384a3b.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...dafda915e6.jpg |
Great having a friend in the know. Got some good advice, made an adjustment.
Boat settled down and can let it run wot now. Same location, near identical conditions. cut the test short because port kplane stuck again. With the wind it leans port, into the wind almost level. Trim about the same. Forgot the gps so don't know if speed increased Thanks dan, you were spot on w/ sympton and cause. |
Outonsarfari where do you live? You are boating in the same aera we boat?
