All of the stringer filler pieces are in and curing as I make this post. Without Joe and Logan I would still be sanding. Thanks a bunch guys! Not sure if he’s got a profile on OSO but Jim gave me a couple tips a while back and tried one of them out tonight. Blue tape stopped all excess resin from running down stringers or building up on the bottom of the bilge. Pulling the tape off should be much easier than sanding the resin down! Tomorrow there is some holes I would like to fill, redo the drain holes between stringers, level the bottom so water drains properly, clean up some hardened resin around the filler pieces, and look into eliminating the water pick ups. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...db37a8eff.jpeghttps://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...34c24636b.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...d89df8827.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...be5d621b6.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a250dbcb5.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...774332ce0.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...656610cb5.jpeg |
If any Skater guys have eliminated the water pickup or have any info about doing so and if it was worth the work please add some info here! https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/...ttom-hull.html Thanks! -Ross |
How is your project going?

i was wondering the same !

I haven’t worked on the boat in quite a while. Needed a break from sanding and sanding and sanding. Bought a jet ski and rode that quite a bit to just get out on the water. Then switched to snowmobiling. I’ve got a layer of glass on one of the stringers I plan on cutting templates and a bunch of glass out tonight then turn the furnace up and glass it all in tomorrow night when the barn and hull is nice and toasty. The thought of dropping it off at skater has been crossing my mind more frequently lately LOL!

Spent some time in the bilge tonight laid 2 layers of glass on the stringers I added. The stringers were 1/4” thinner then the existing stringers and the two layers of glass made them flush with the old ones! Filled the old engine mount holes with cabosil / resin aswell. Onto the starboard side tomorrow evening.

Lol, fat thumbs hit done too quick. Looks great, I've been wondering how this rebuild was going.
Cant wait to see its progress. |
You need way more over lap on the new glass. 3 to 4 inches on all sides . But looks good for a filler.
|
is the whole back of the boat still missing?
|
B85- there will be a couple layers over the whole stringer - new and old - to tie them together
315D- yes the transom is off yet. Much easier to get in and out of the boat. Just step into the bilge instead of up and down a ladder. |
Round two success! Next is to let it cure for a bit and fill some more holes in the mean time. Existing stringers need sanded down then the final layers can cap the whole length of old and newhttps://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...60f800f28.jpeg

Sanded the paint off the existing stringers and skimmed a coat of epoxy / cabosil where the final cover coats of glass will wrap the whole stringers. Hoping it will be cured to sand with some low grit paper and slap some glass at it Friday.

Progress!! Sanded everything down yet again scuffed it up good with 36 grit and laid some chop down for the final glass on the stingers.

Did this one stall out?

This summer has been stupid busy and after welding all day at work in 90 degrees high humidity the last thing I wanted to do was sand in the barn at home. Will pick back up again now that it’s cooling off

I hear ya brother. I saved my pennies this summer and just put in a full shop HVAC system. June-sept is just pure misery after a full day at work
I’m looking at doing that now. The summer heat makes it miserable. |

Any updates to this one?

Wholly crap that is a huge undertaking. I remember that boat running around Lake Texoma when it was owned by Leon. Many of good memories seeing it run in the poker runs.
|
is this thing on the water yet?
|
Boat, drives, motors, trannys, trailer… etc everything I’ve got for the boat is for sale at the moment. Life had some other plans I underwent back surgery this year and may not complete the boat myself. Big bummer
|
I'm sorry to hear the news. I've followed this thing since the beginning. Sure you couldn't be talked Into just shelving it for awhile? Maybe do it little by little? It's going to be an amazing piece when it's completed.
