I talked to the guy last summer about it. Nice boat and nice guy. Hardware is all original so it might need some attention. Used to be a 3 man center steer setup. Cabin is bare glass (race setup). Older motors but he says they are fresh....that was my only big hang up. Runs in the low mid 70's.
|
So, ah ,is it being marketed ? or is going to be ? I am calling a friend that might be able to give you some info.
|
Nevermind, I see it's craigslist. Duh. My friend thinks that boat was ran by Saber as a race boat. Anyways I clued him in somebody was aking asking questions, he will probably log in and post if he knows more.
|
Yep, was the old Team Saber, talked to the guy. like the boat, just dont like the obs. talking to some people about cost to convert to IO.

What are you looking for in a 28' Saber? Twins or Single. My friend has a 28 with twin Hawk 525 SC's that I could get you in touch with.

Well what i want and what i can afford are two different things. haha
but. Im in either direction twins or single. but just for ease of use i would say single. but like how the boats sit in the water with twins. I like the yellow tiwn but seems like a bit of a project, One reason i like this is the weight of the boat is only 5500 LBs with trailer and half tank fuel. Which means i can pull it with a 1500 P/U. |

short staggered sbc's. you could probably get 8 grand for the o/b's running
Besides if you think the yellow twin seems like a project wait until you start this conversion :evilb: |

Don't forget about drives, transom assemblies, steering, wiring, misc. rigging and of course the glasswork. All that and you might get 8k for the ob's. It ain't there........

I understand about not liking the outboards, but ya never know until you try. The maintenance factor alone is a good reason to look at an outboard boat. If its the old motors you dont like, try to buy it without power, or resell the old motors, and upgrade to opti's. I said the same thing about outboards, 'til I moved to Florida, and many times had to put the boat back on the trailer 'cuz the I/O gods werent with me that day. Most times at the ramp, I wasnt running, and some old geezer was putting a 197o's wellcraft in the water, and the old Johnson starts right up. he goes boating, and I go spend more $$$ on the car motor, think about it. I love my outboard, and would have a hard time justifying going back to I/O.
|
Great Boat !
Was not raced BY Saber , but was "Team Saber" back in it's racing days . Don't waste any more time thinking about a rerig to I/O's . . . there is a way too much to do in the "engine compartment " alone to convert ... plus that you will screw up a nice boat ! Which one is coming up with the 525's ? Whats Chris want for this one ? |

Boat was origanlly owned by Mike Zingale here is Ohio. Raced as Team Saber for a few years with GLOPRA/GLSCS.
When Chris bought it the motors were gone thru by Mark Pokler (Cat Can Do) Liter Marine. He's one of the best. Those motor run really strong if maintained. Haven't seen the boat for a few years but know Chris keeps his stuff pretty nice. I like what he did with the dash and sitdowmn conversion. 22k put you into a nice rig with the ability to upgrade. A pair of 300's would make a huge improvement over the old 2.5. |

I saw purple haze when it was being built, what a beauty.
I know somewhere in that time they added storage compartments along the sides in cockpit. (gunnels ?) |

I converted a MAGNUM SEDAN to O/B. Presently run a pair of 300X's, got 78 GPS so far... with more to go. "HIGH LIFE"
|
I wasn't too far from buying the 7.3 boat 3-4 years ago when it was up for sale.. Dude's name was Burt Reynolds (hard to forget) that had it at the time listed here on OSO... Clean looking boat, timing was just a couple months off..
Jerry, I knew the twin 465-500hp boat was yours but had no idea you had the twin 454 boat built.. |
As for converting a twin OB to an I/O a person better have their ---- together b/c it would be no easy task !! There is no way you could come out if you had to pay to have it done !! No way !! & in all reality even if you done all the labor , ect.. ect.. yourself it would be questionable if it was worth it.. I wasn't far from pulling the trigger on a 33 pp O/B that I was going to slice up when I bought the Saber.. I bought the Saber b/c it was the "easier" conversion..

My 28' Apache is available:drink:
|
Hey guys, I really missed my internet this weekend, Talked to Doug and saber and, Yes IO conv. is way out of the question. few big problems is the fuel tank runs into the engine comp. then boat is make for a OB so transom is 5 1/2 In THICK. also being made for OBS the strings are not made to support or place an IO in or around.
So YES this one will stay an OB, Talked to the owner nice guy. Just got some pics for it ill post time up, Boat will need some reriging for the controls, just because the steering is not in the center. And i know Mark (cat can do) Hes actually a family friend of my fathers. so i got to make some time to talk to mark before i waste to much time. As far as OB's thats all ive ever had on a boat. Just nothing sounds like a BBC..... |

Thanks !! Thats cool you got to see it being built..
No, blown single going in it... She almost ended up with twin sbc's, but in the end the big single worked out best for me.. |
