What makes a Scarab a Kaama?
Lately I have seen a lot of Scarabs that are Kaama's. Does anybody know what makes a Scarab a Kaama. Was it a particular option or some kind of graphics that were put on the hull?

Re: What makes a Scarab a Kaama?
Just guessing here '69,
- Flat Deck instead of raised pleasure model deck (Scarab III?) - "Race Hatches (vents)" instead of flat cushions over engines - KV - no one opinion here, some say Wellcraft used Kevlar for reinforcement of key areas.....others think that this stood for "Kaama Victory". Not really convinced either way. - Notch in transom (higher X-dimension of drives?) - No windshield, just the "race faring". That's my opinion......common KAAMA heads....chime in :evilb: :D :evilb: Uncle Ernie |

KAAMA surface drives. There was also the KAAMA 425 hp 454 motor package also. They had little blue plates on the exhaust that said KAAMA and came with blue valve covers.

Pretty sure that not all KAAMA Scarabs came with KAAMA surface drives (but I wouldn't have kicked if mine had  ).

Re: What makes a Scarab a Kaama?
What year did Wellcraft start making the flat deck 377? I have a Wellcraft brochure from 1981 and it mentions that wellcraft has introduced a special edition Scarab kaama. It is a flush deck version of the 377 with side by side engines. A kevlar hull may also be ordered. The picture of the boat says "Kaama Special edition" on the side of the hull and the bioat has the race hatches. I also have a wellcraft brochure from 1982 and it shows the regular raised deck "377 Scarab" and the "Scarab 377 Special edition" that has the flush deck. My boat is a 1980. It has the flat deck and side by side engines, but it only says "Scarab" on the side of the hull. So are all flat deck Scarabs Kaama's. On a side note I found a 38 scarab ( early 80's vintage) that says "Kaama" on the side of the hull but it has a sun pad, not race hatches. It is the red and black one that has been laid up in a marina just south of where Crocker runs into Jefferson in Harrison Township

Little late to this but I am the new owner of the Red and Black 377 that was down by Harrison.
