Scarab!!!
got some scarab three questions for you guys. as some of you know i have been working a deal on Ernie Davis's 38 flat deck Scarab (i call him cap'tn patience :drink: ) to make this deal happen i have to sell my 260 Scorpion. had a guy look at it today and he has offered to trade me even up for a 1989 ScababIII. its a pretty decent boat with about 450 hours 330's, Brovos and molded swim platform. no trailer though. boat needs some cosmetics but was in regular use right up till this fall and is reported to be in good mechanical condition. cabin is very nice and cockpit is decent. my question is i think i would have an easier time selling this over my scorpion. i was asking 14k for my Scorp so if i get in that neighbor hood for this scarab i am still doing good. my question is what is the marketability for a scarab three in the 15 to 20K range? i would like to move this thing fast does it sound like i am just wishful thinking or would this price make it an atractive boat for someone. thanks guys . . . or should i say fellow Scarab owners :D
i am going to go take some pics of the Scarab this weekend and will have a better idea of what i want to get out of it. i will also put up some pics . |

Re: Scabar III !!!
Dave, I have been doing a lot of research on this because I am getting ready to sell my Scarab III and wanted to know where to price it. With the Scarab III it all depends on the condition and what it has in it. I have seen some go for 15K and others go for 40K. It all depends on the engines, drives, and how clean it is for an older boat because the basic boat has pretty much stopped depreciating in value if its a mid 80's boat. The no trailer is gonna hurt a little of course, but I think 15K shouldn't be too hard to get for a 34' boat, although you said it needs a little work and the engines have a lot of time on them. It really depends on what kind of shape its in. Watch this one and see how it goes.

looked at it this morning an got some pics. it needs some cleaning but is pretty solid. checked transom and stringers and they are dry. boat has full shore power, fridge , stand up head . . .all that stuff. originally i thought it had 330's but i looked an it has 365 mag's (460hrs). cabin is in great shape and just needs a weekend of cleaning. the cockpit is needing a very good cleaning but is pretty good except for the rear bench seat, its just worn but still very usable.

Re: Scabar III !!!
hey can anyone give me a suggestion for what the best prop for this boat would be. it has 365Mags with 23" Quicksilvers on it right now an i dont believe they are very good props for this boat.

i'm seeing 56.7 at 5K. i can live with that for now but am thinking about tossing in some roller cams and AirGap intakes along with some better props :evilb: |

Re: Scabar III !!!
how long really is you scarab without swim platform? I have a 89 formula 35-7 wich really is 35,7 + swim platform = 37.7 feet, twin 454-420 HP running 48 mp/hour... felt toooo slow for what I thought it would go...

Re: Scabar III !!!
the hull length is 32' 9" i measured it the other day for my trailer. advertised hull length is 33' 11" but that is measured along the ark of rubrail from the corner of the transom to the tip of the bow( which means absolutly nothing  :D ) the length of the boat with the platform and all is 35' and a few inches. looks huge in the water for some reason. the stock stripes really drag the length out. the 357 Formula is one of my all time favorite boats. especially the late eighties.

Re: Scabar III !!!
Dave ,, Just saw this thread,,, I had a 86 with 365s and TRS ,,, a very nice boat ,,,, the Bravo drive is a much better setup for this hull,,, with about 425 to 450 hp this is a 66-68mph boat ,,, you will love it ,,, lots of room and just crushes the big water,,,, take your time ,,, fix the rattles and change the paint later,, cams ,, manifolds ,, and carbs ,,, CMI tube exaust and your good to go!!!! :drink:
