I think I'm getting a good deal at 14K...less than 200 hrs, new interior.
As far as pics, I can't wait to see it myself! I'll get some on the water, etc... -Steve I was debating over the weekend because there is a 22 on eBay with a modded engine, but I don't want to mess with that. I know from my road racing that modded engines can be finnicky and I don't want to have to bring my toolbag with me everytime I go to the lake. I just want a reliable boat. Personally I think you did just fine at 14k.Can you put a price tag on fun? I also saw that boat on Ebay.Interesting boat though. If the time comes that you feel you need more power then you could add your own performance upgrades. Steve |
I am still on the fence between the two boats. The one on eBay looks very tempting. I spoke with the owner for about an hour and he explained a lot about the boat. It was built with no expense spared and then decided to upgrade to a 33. Their loss someone's gain...maybe mine. The issue with the other boat is that is was used as a test bed for diesel engines in boats and also a platform for stereo equipment. Now that they are done, they put in a 200 ht 7.4 MPI with a Bravo 1 to sell the boat. I am only concerned with the reliability. It seems to me that both of these boats have their pros and cons. I just can't choose my poison.
As far as the power goes, it's not that I need it, but the engine is so fresh...would be nice, but how long will it last and how much to maintain such an engine? The MPI boat was tested to be ok on the computer. I just can't decide at this point and don't want to make a wrong decision. My wife would kill me if we bought a boat and immediately had problems. I understand little things here and there, but when we buy the boat and the drive takes a crap because we are running so much power through it... It's things like that I am concerned about. I'm just trying to get an "it's gonna be alright" and just buy the damn boat. |
Well....are you boating yet?

I'm now looking at alternatives like the Hammer, made a call on a 23SCS today. I don't want to spend a lot of $$, but I also don't want to buy a floating piece of $hit. -Steve |
Well..... now your making it an easy choice.Get the SCS .
|
I am making offers on 3 boats tomorrow, a Baja Boss Hammer, and 2 SCS's. We'll see how things turn out. I like the SCS, but it seems more suited for speeding around. I have my wife that likes to lay out in the sun, etc....
I like both boats and both have very good reviews from owners. Now, if I were single, it'd be the SCS all the way no questions asked. Because my wedding cost a lot and I don't want to play the whole dating game again, it's easier to make sure my wife likes the purchase also. My buddy drove home with a 27ft Baja and it didn't go off too well. How easy is the access to the bow area underneath? Do the seats move? My wife likes having the option of laying under there in the evening to rest. Doesn't sound half-bad to me, either! Know what I mean? Anyway, any input would be valuable. After doing more research, the 22 scarabs interiors are very old compared to like model year boats. Thanks, Steve |
I'm 6 foot tall and it's fairly easy to get under the bow. Both front seats do slide back.Little difficult for your wife to lay out on the back of the boat the way it sits in the water.Kind of at a slant. My wife lays out on the bow of the boat but she's a small gal.
My brother has a Boss Hammer and his boat was designed to lay out on the back. The Hammer and SCS are really two different boats.Totally different hull designs.I tease my brother that his boat looks like a hot tub with a motor. |
I know what you mean about the hot tub in the water. I spoke with the gentleman about the boat yesterday at great length. The boat sounds great and is in CA like me! I think he has an interested buyer, but I will follow up with him.
I also found the Donzi 22ZX. It is more in the Hammer class, but is a Donzi nontheless. I think I'm going to slow down on the boat process and take my time. I don't want to make any hasty decisions. Nice thing is that I have money in hand and when the right boat comes along, it's mine. Thanks for the input. |
I wouldn't leave out the 21' Scarab. The cuddy is big enough to sleep two, in fact mine is fully carpeted with cushions, 2 access hatches, a build in cooler, neon lights, 2 fans, stereo speakers, dvd, monitor and playstation. I'm 6'1 200 and fit in there fine with pleaty of room for my girl. I stay overnight on the boat at least a dozen time during the summer.
Also there is a nice sun deck in on the back of the boat for laying out. Not trying to sway your decision but they are nice boats and may be an alternative to the 22's and 23's. Some will say '23 if you add the wooden swim platforms but the real lenght is 21. PM me if you have any questions about the 21's. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...ouchedup40.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...andboat001.jpg |
Scarab CV
Check my boat out. I was looking at 22's when I bought this boat, and now it could be yours.....
