Re: 29 with twins

Same here, honest 60. 94 twin 350 carb mags alphas. I find the boat a great overall boat. Trailerable , easy to maintain , with the engine and drive package I have not very expensive. Replaced all the running gear this year for like 13000, reman mercury long blocks , 2 new transom assemblies and drives. Ready for another 12 years! I do wish I had a bit bigger boat on those rough days but the cost to own and run this boat keeps me in it.

I know the mpis are faster. My buds 96 is rigged 2004 with mpi mags and bravos , runs like posted 66-68 on gps for sure. One other option I wonder if would make a difference is the sport tabs and hyd steering. We both have the bennett dual ram tabs.

Re: 29 with twins

I have a 1999 29 With Twin MPI 350/300hp Motors. The best I ever got was 70.0(?) on GPS running down stream Middle channel Lake St. Clair Michigan - with a strong tail wind, light fuel and light wife! Than was once.. Never aging did I hit that speed, the best after that was 68.1(gps) .. Than it was (67, 66, 65..gps)..

I had to replace a faulty head gasket that dropped one cylinder to 80psi. I'm thinking I should see 68/69 now seeing I'm able to turn my 23p props 5000/5100rpm. Before I replaced the gasket I was only able to turn my props at 4900-5000rpm on the good engine and 4600/4700 on the bad engine, so this head gasket was a on going problem most the summer till it completely burnt through at the end of the season.

My winter project; Lightning Headers, K&N filters, ECU work and sending my props to throttle up.. I should get 72/74 when finished.

Re: 29 with twins

My stainless marine headers K&N filters (which I still have for sale) and prop work gained me 1 mph. Good luck. It did sound much better though. To get mine to run anything above 69 on it's best day took a little bit more $$$$...

Mine has steering and K planes, nose cones. All the good stuff.

That's All? - Tyler Crockett and other said with those mods 72/74 was very reasonable speed.

Re: 29 with twins

I doubt it, those mods do not gain all that much HP IMHO. As we all know there is no cheap speed for boats. The bad part is the mods you described will still be several thousand bucks.

My boat was tested and the headers installed and retested in the same day. No real noticable change except for sound. I think it accelerated faster but that may have been the noise, as there was no real way to measure acceleration. My 23 pitch mirage plus props were labbed my Mercury, the K&N filters seem to help the transom smut a little but thats about it. I did not reprogram the computers until I installed the Prochargers. IMO prochargers or something similiar are by far the best bang for the buck. Under normal non-WOT cruising I use less fuel then I used to. I now have 28 pitch props and easily cruise at 50+ mph at 3000 rpm.

Just my opinion, and yes everyone has one, however I have the boat that has proven some of this.
