Re-Power or Trade?

1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys need some advice... I have a incredibly new looking 1999 38 AVS with twin 502's. Last summer the speed thing finally got to me when all my friends are running in the 90's leaving me in the dust. I talked with manufactures like Fountain, Cig, and Donzi about trading up. Re-power existing for $60-80K or add $200-300K for a new boat. I'm just not sure if putting more money into the boat is worth it, but depreciation of a newer boat is probably no better. Attached is a pic. Comments??

What are you speeds are you running now? I would rather keep my boat and re-power it before buying a unknow boat, You just never know.. Unless your thinking new, thats another story.

Tough call.

If you got the bucks, the answer is simple... a Top Gun.

If it were my boat, I know that I could redo the 502s and the drives for way-less than 80k. Guys on this site do it all the time. Although, I also see that unless you're willing to spend the ultra-bucks (80k), reliability often times comes into question. And of'course you'd never get a dime of that money back.

The need for speed is expensive anyway you go about it.

THATS A GREAT LOOKING BOAT.
I would a rebuild with some good aluminum heads, pistons, crank, go to a roller cam and lifters if it does not already have it and add some blowers. Service the drives and do a gear upgrade. Think about having the bottom blue printed.

GK,, thats a very sharp looking boatyou have.

I agree with most of the others in that it is going to cost you a lot of dinero to go faster, and a newer TG/Fountatin/Donzi is going to cost more. If it was mine I would probably stay with what I had and save the dollars, but hey thats is just my opinion. Good luck.

If the motors are fuel injected, just go with a set of Pro Chargers or Whipples. You'll pick up 100-150HP per motor, have pretty dependable motors and all for about $15,000 installed. Cheaper if you find a used set.

Re: Re-Power or Trade?

I'd still keep your boat and just re-power,,,still cheaper than selling and buying one already set up.

Too much hassle involved. Too many hi-po parts available still cheaper than buying another one.
