Info on a Scarab3

I own a 1988 Scarab 3 (Ninja) 34ft twin screw. Anyone heard of this boat ? I posted this Q months ago and got only 1 reply. Called Wellcraft for info, they said their computers wont go that far back. Looks like the Larry Smith (Flat top) only I have a glass windshield. It also has the narrow walkway down the sides of the cockpit. I know there was very few made. Does anyone have info to help?

That tells you guys how much I know about the boat. I assumed it was a scarab 3 cause thats what the guy at wellcraft told me. I'd just like to know about it for piece of mind. I've spent a ton of money bringing her back to life! Thanks again!!!

I have an original brochure for Wellcraft from 1986. It has the Nova models, Scarabs 1, 2, and 3, the KV, the 400, the Excalibur, and the Meteor. It also has a Panther model.

I seem to recall a Ninja model a couple of years later. I'm pretty sure it was based on the Panther. The Scarab line all had glass windshields (except the KV), but the Panther had a fiberglass fairing with no windshield and a narrow 6 to 8 inch gunnel on the sides. It was about 30' long. I'm pretty sure the Ninja was based on that model.

Can you post some pics?

Not a very good pic. I had spent a month sanding, hands were tired. I'll see if I can get better pics this weekend. Motors are going back in !!!

I still think it's a longer varient of the Panther. I am attaching a pic of the Panther in the 1986 Brochure. Look at the deck carefully and let us know what you think. This is my 1st attempt to add a pic....

My feeble mind has me recalling a 34 Ninja (I/O) and Raider (twin O/B). I'm not sue what hulls were modeled off of, but the topsides had flat decks. The didn't seem to make a lot of them because I've only seen a few for sale.

Thanks 3DMC, the top pic you sent looks just like it. I got the the motors put in over the weekend and took several pics but i'm having a hard time posting them(not very computer smart). Ive been told there was only 62 of them made. It's going in for paint next weekend (all white) for now cause I cant make up my mind on graffs. Hoping to have it at LOTO Memorial weekend. Thanks again guys , may see ya down there rdoactive party cove!!!

Some more pics. Give me your honest input on the tread plate on the lower dash. I'm not finished as you can tell, Im running it down the steps but leaving the doors black. The carpet is coming out and going back gray. Looks kinda funny with no windshield.

That diamond plate is going to get plenty hot, and so will anything around it. I used to use it in my rail buggy floors all shiny and cool looking, but it would burn the snot out of you after sitting in direct sunlight for oh, about 20 seconds. Works like a big ol' mirror. If you like the stuff like I do, do yourself a favor and get it powder coated or anodized in a complementary color. You'll be glad you did. Just my .02

PS--COOL BOAT!

A Ninja has a flatdeck with no middle support/stiffener as a 38KV . THEREFORE ? The Deck is terribly wavy AT LEAST on this example. I was quite dissapointed, no match for a 38KV deck or a Cig.
So apparently the deck is for that model only and the hull might be a stretch of a 30 panther or ?
I just went and took a look of a 1988 Kevlar Ninja... it has Bravos from factory and Mag 365īs plus Bennet trim tabs?!!!

Some of those boats had outboards V8's others w/ big block package like yours. Great older boat, wave crusher definetly cooler than a big old scarab II or III. My guess is they Blocked off the 38' mold and built the ninja/raider models

Sorry guys I havent done much with the boat lately. The guy doing the interior has jacked me around for 3 months,+ my X is back to gold digging. I'll post some more pics if I can get my seats back.

We used Dupont Imron on it. This winter I'm wanting to get rid of the winshield and fab. a shorter, fiberglass one. I'm thinkin about having the whole boat wrapped. I love the black and white but there sure is a lot of black!

Talked to my uncle at the ol' family Christmas gathering today. He was a Wellcraft dealer back in those days. He didn't remember much, but did say the hull was similar to the panther, and as he recalled, VERY fast bottom. He said they respond VERY well to big horsepower. He did HIGHLY recommend a good steering and stabilizer system for drives though. BTW, awesome boat, love the old Wellcrafts... Nick

Thanks! It's taken over 2 years to complete, I emailed a Co.WWW.xmpinc.com the other day to get a price on a swim platform and also Zeiger Industries about HYD. steering. This whole project has been one hell of an experience, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks for the compliments!
