Q's about a 31Thunder

My dad is looking at a Scarab 31 "Thunder" that Lake Cumberland Marine has listed on their website. It's got some gaudy graphics, but appears to be a well maintained vessel. The motors are carbed 500's. Do any of you Scarab guys have info about this boat? What kind of speeds etc. can he expect from that hull with that power?

I've got a 91 Scarab, with the thunder package. It probably has the same gaudy graphics as the one at LC, I plan to repaint mine within the next year or 2. Its a great boat, rides great, lot of cockpit space, but lacking storage- - - I really like the boat overall.
Good luck!

They have very similar graphics. What does your's have for power? We discussed maybe doing a little work with an exacto knife until this winter when he can get it painted.

Ok, thats a 31Viper , mine is a 31 Excel... I guess the thunder package was offered for different models. But, i've got 454mags, I believe the Viper has a faster hull than the Excel's. It should run great with the hp500's

Cool. Thanks for the info Fast. He's supposed to go back to LCM tomorrow morning and dunk it in the lake.

Well, he ended up buying the Scarab. We took it out on the Ohio yesterday and it was pretty impressive. It's in great shape for it's age and the motors are strong to say the least. With well over a 1/2 tank of gas and 3 "hefty" men on board we managed an easy 72mph. I think he could probably prop the boat up and get 76-77 if it was light on fuel and fat.:D
