Is it worth it?
Hey all,
I have a question. I'm currently having my engines pulled to have some maint. done on them (twin 350's). I was thinking today, would it be worth it to punch them both to a 383 stroker? Like I said I was just kicking it around and I figured it would be different in a Scarab. What do you all think? Sulfur1 |
Not sure about a boat, but I had Day automotive in Kansas City build a 400hp 383 and put it in a truck and let me tell ya it would get it!

Just My 2 cents worth......
Torque is the moving force for any type of vehicle from airplanes to heavy trucks A 383 will produce a whole lot more torque than a stadard 350 and if built with the right internals will be virtually Bullet Proof |
Why are you pulling the motors? Are they old and tired? How old are the blocks?
|
hunster,
No I have an oil leak in my Starboard engine. Having it pulled so its easier to get to. The engines are "98" s. And as far as I can tell still has all the original hoses. I would like to do this once every other year anyway, just pull the engines and take a look at them just to see what might be ready to go or if I can squeeze an upgrade in there somewhere...LOL. But no real "issues". Sulfur1 |
I can only ask..........Why wouldnt you???:D

I'm not sure what kind of drives you are running... remember if you build up your engines to some real big hp you might need to change out your drives. Just my 2 pennies.
|
GK, I'm running Bravo Ones.
|
I talked to Mecury Racing and they don't advise exceeding 500 hp on Bravo One drives. In fact, they orginally introduced the 525's with Bravo One drives and quickly had to change to the XR drive because the Bravo could not handle the torque. Give it a try but be prepared if something lets go. Good luck.

If you can get 375-400hp from 383s would be nice. :D
