need some input and comments on LSScarab
looking at a 28 LS scarab,,offshore stlye in classys..originally a i/o built at Westerly, supposedly the best when Larry was doing the glass work....light layup,yr 1995..was sent back to Westerly after racing to be converted to outboards..added and redid flooring at Westerly..
Looking for input on any other known 28ft Larry Smith boats or owners..it had 260 offshores on it..looking at dropping 300X's on the back..no stress and gel fiberglass is perfect.. The lines are classic to me.. |
isnt htere anybody out there who has looked at this boat in the classified,or spoken to the guy,or have any input on the boat??
|
I beleive that there were only a hand full of 28ft boats ever
made, They were made when the rules were changed and the 29 mold had a insert in the transom for the class change What is the Hull mfg # SQE is Team Scarab, Flat deck LS Scarab. I beleive I remember the boat but was never involved with it, I worked on a few projects at Westerly over the years but not that one. If I remember it was RED, Staggered motors, and Driver and throttlle man were in line. But I,ll be 70 in a few days Mike J. |
Thanks..this was originally a i/o,pictures are in the classies on this site..after it was raced it was sent back and changed to outboards..I would call it the flat deck,??
thanks for a response |
Call Team Scarab in California directly (im interested in the 38 on the board )the should be able to help ,
|
PS it was interesting talking with them,(as i said i called on the 38 ).Every Larry Smith is construted differently with specific intent given to the boats usage (ocean racer, poker run ect )so their weights vary.COMPLETELY different boat from the Wellcraft variety

AGREE..the pictures of the 28 I am thinking about are awesome..power would be twin 300Xs. running Merc labbed cleavers, entire package is about 3600lbs..former racer owns it now,CG is set up just right, says clicking out mid to high 80s is a snap...looks like fun for running in the lake or in the bay,gulf...has some super trick stuff on it equipment wise..
|
no I meant the 23 is a lake boat. The 28 would handle some chop for sure. At the very least you wouldn't be slowing to cross boat wakes like the 23 !!!!
