Well actually I only know of one :D . . . Hey Bob after i got the artwork done for the spraymasks for your boat i thought i'd re-work the file for a vinyl sticker cut. Came out pretty sweet. These vector files and also be used by your embroiderer if you wanter to do up shirts or something.

Paint starts fly'in mid week. YEEE-HAAAA :cool-smiley-011:

Oh by the way heres the original artwork on the side of the boat i had to work with. Basically i took a pic imported it into Corel, did all the rendering in that than exported it to my cutting program.

by the way Bob buz me or PM your phone number. Ran my phone through the washer and lost a bunch of numbers. :D

work'in away man, got some cool projects in the shop. I'll get some more pics up but this is one of those projects that probably wont look any different in the pics before or after. its being restored to original and was actually pretty decent to start with. I have a bunch of "in progress" pics though. I'll get some pics up of masking all the logos on the side for paint. i re mastered everything for spraymask die-cuts. The one above was on the side of the boat and is about 6 feet long and it was originally free taped 9and touched up with a brush at some point). Altough it was decent it comes no where near mine. The mask vector file and the vinyl sticker vector file are very different and i figured it might be cool to be able to do them as stickers. Put 'em on the trailer or something :D

Glassdave, the font on Scarab I have seen two different ways. one like yours with a forward slant and one like on my boat with a backwards slant. Is it a generation thing or what?Mike

nocigarette 04-01-2008 06:19 PM

Are you making a duplicate to the original nasty or fixing the original.....The only reason i ask is because my stepfather had nasty and i might be able to get better pics for ya.....What you are duing is spot on from what i remember.....

nocigarette 04-01-2008 06:23 PM

Sorry dave i did not read the post close enough, i see the radar arch in one of the pics.....Great boat it use to run real good with 575's, awsome hardware on the boat.....#5 and boxes if i remeber right....

Actually i'm not sure. These are a duplicate of what was on the boat originally but i have seen them both ways. I have both vector files so i can do them either way. This boat is an 87 and the badges that are on the inside of the engine compartment are opposite the ones painted on the sides. I have learned in the boat industry its pretty much anything goes with not much rhyme or reason sometimes :D

I am looking at the 1987 Wellcraft catalog. All the Scarab models shown (Scarab I, II, III Panther, KV and 50 Meteor)have no slant in Scarab either forward or backward. I got the Wellcraft catalog at the Cleveland Boat Show from Monroeville Marine. Monroeville, OH. Are they still around?

glassdave 04-01-2008 07:23 PM

Yes all the original graphics are being re-done in paint. I re-mastered them from photos i took before i started thanks for the offer. I imported them into my graphics software and cut them as spray masks. The originals were all free taped back in the day and i cant imagine the time it would have took. My best guess if i had to do it the old school way would take me roughly a week per side. As a spray mask i dont think i have more than about 8 hours in actual paint time maybe 4 hours cutting them on my plotter and maybe another 10 or 12 hours generating the graphics in CorelDraw. The results are very accurate representation of the original. Spoke to Rockne at the last boat club meeting and he was glad to know it is being restored (although it was in pretty nice shape to begin with). This really is a great classic with some cool history.

hmmm . . . not sure there Sprague. this is the emblem that is on this 87 and i am pretty sure its original. I have an 89 ScarabIII i will hafta take a look. i am guessing the were painted on in whichever way was esthetically pleasing. Heres a pics of the original graphics with it slanted the other way :cool-smiley-011:

Maybe whoever did the original was left handed than they got a new right handed guy in the late eighties :D

BenPerfected 04-01-2008 09:10 PM

Dave,
Maybe you are right that the slant slightly to the left. The picutres on the catalog are mostly action shots at an angle and it is hard to tell. I will bring the catalog with me next week...hurry up and get caught up!
