Scarab SCS Project
Newbie to the boards here, usead to be on the Hotboat forums until they killed it....anyways, bought my SCS sight unseen from a guy in Portland who towed it down to Southern Cali for me. When I first saw it, the exterior/interior were much worst than I had thought, and I had a project on my hands!
Took the whole boat apart, redid everything (had the paint and upholstery outsourced). Lots of blood, sweat, and tears, but it came out looking sick! Here's the finished product: Blown 502, 650 HP http://www.offshoreonly.com/gallery/...9020256_2_.JPG http://www.offshoreonly.com/gallery/.../P10100251.JPG http://www.offshoreonly.com/gallery/...m/P1010040.JPG http://www.offshoreonly.com/gallery/...m/P1010039.JPG http://www.offshoreonly.com/gallery/...m/P1010028.JPG |
Welcome to OSO and our little SCS brotherhood:D
There are 5 or 6 SCS owners here so have fun and speak up. I've seen your boat on Hotboat before.Used to go over there once in a while and look around.Very nice boat you have. Are those graphics or painted on blue type of flames? What boost are you running on that 502? I have a brand new Procharger still in the box in my garage.Bought January of last year. The plan is to install it this spring if I can get away from other projects. |

awsome scs I used to have one great boat
|
Only kink in the boat is that I get some chine walk around 80 - 85 mph. Using a 30p bravo one on an XR drive. Any ideas? Some shops have told me that the hull is not made to handle much more speed and that I should give up trying to go faster.
Have Dana 1000 tabs, but the shave speed off as soon as they hit the water.... |

Great looking boat! Welcome :)

For a boat of that caliber (speed wise and HP) the tabs should have been mounted parallel to the water line. With the tabs being mounted following the "V" your pulling too much drag and not fixing your problem.
Parallel to the water line would solve your chine walk an take away 60 percent of the tab contact with water at high speeds. I've never had a boat slow down with the tabs set up properly. Boat looks great. |
Sweet
Wow Very Nice Boat,,welcome To Our House
|
WOW, that has got to be the coolest SCS I have ever seen! I have owned one for the last 5 years and have loved every minute of it. I just sold mine today and will be buying a cat for the same reason that Oliver talked about with the Chine at 80. I ran a stock 454 at Havasu and was able to get mine to about 79. The hulls are definitely great for taking rough water, but there is only so much speed a 23 deep V can handle before it becomes a white knuckle express. I have raced and beat many a Baja in that boat just stock. If I were to have kept my boat, I would love to have done it up just like Olivers!
One thing that would be really cool is to add the blue steering wheel like what I have on mine... Here is the link... http://www.offshoreonlyclassifieds.c...o21954-en.html |
Hey PROSTREETER-- I remember racing around chatfield with you last summer, it was fun to race my own boat and to watch it in the water running down the lake. That 502 was just enough for you to beat my 454. You better put that procharger on this spring, cuz your going to need it when I drop a 598 in the American Offshore i am buying... See you out on the Lake this summer!
|
That was you:p
Funny how we remember things a little different. My recolection of the race was you were well over a 1/2 mile behind me by the time I had to throttle down. That 502 mag is FAST!!All BS aside, where did your SCS end up going to? That was a nice, well kept boat.Looks like I'll have the only SCS in the state now. OK,guess I'll need to schedule some time this month to put the supercharger on.See ya at the lake.BTW.....Welcome to OSO. |

In performance boating there's no one answer to cover different installations.
The main thing to consider is, what do you want from your tabs? Are you just trying to run top end speed? or are you trying to pull your kids wakeboarding? There's alot of variables to your specifications that would lead to the answer as to how to mount your tabs. You can give me a call if you want to go over it. 951-279-5005 Bob |
Oliver,
Your boat is awesome and the reason why I went and bought my SCS last year! Guys I've been looking at tabs and Dana say that you need to go with their HP series because the LT's aren't strong enough for speeds over 70mph. Nor are they all that in rough water- the main reason that I want them. Oliver, why did you go for the long tabs over the shorter ones? That's a lot of tab in a 23 footer. |

What is the top speed anyone has been able to get out of the hull. I have had my 502 worked and the best I can get it 82. I can turn a 29 pitch prop at 5000 RPM and dont get anymore speed than turning a 25 pitch prop at the same RPM. Any suggestions.

Where does your rev limiter kick in? |
Not sure on the drive ratio. He was supposed to set the rev limiter to 6000. It doesn't sound like I am hitting it though.

Drive ratio is critical for helping to determine a prop. For instance, if you are really turning a 25 to 5000 rpm and achieving a speed of 82, you must have a 1.36 drive ratio as with a 1.5 at that pich and rpm you would only be able to run in the mid to low 70s |
It doesn't make sense to me either. The 82 is under perfect conditions, 1 foot chop half a tank of fuel and no passengers cool day. Probably was hitting 5100 to 5200 RPM. I have tried 27 29 and even a four blade 32. Every prop got me around 5100 except the 32. Best I could get was 4800 out of it. Out of all of them the GPS stayed in the high 70's to low 80's.
