Scarab 29 repowering
Hey everyone I have a Scarab 29 with twin 350 Magnum with Bravo drives I currently run around 70mph.
I currently taking part in some boat races and I need more HP and I am not sure whether to put prochargers on or replace my 1996 350 magnums with the new 383 stoker engines rated at 350hp (by the way is it possible to put the 383 scorpion rated at 400hp or it can be used only on ski boats). I would like my engines to be around 400hp which I think should push the boat in the 80 to 85mph range. I am worried whether to prochargers can do the job and keep my engines reliable. Thank you |

I had them on mine for 2 years with zero problems. nice addition to the 350 mag setup. Ran 80 in ideal situations and was very fuel efficient. very tight to install. But then again anything in a 29 scarab engine room with twins is tight.

I think the 400 hp 383 is set up different for inboards. Met a guy last fall that does the quicksilver remans and builds the 383's , thats kinda all he would tell me. They are / were working on some higher hp ones he mentioned though .

Thank you for the information. I just been with Procharger on the phone and told me they are not sure if the system fits my 350 since they are from 1996. Does anyone know what is the difference between my 350 from 1996 and those from 1999?
My top cover are like those of the 502efi with the intake on the left hand side? If anyone have any pictures with 1996 350 mag procharges please let me know they will be very helpful? Thank you |
Send me the pic with the cover removed and I will tell you if it looked like my 98's. The merc web site part ordering system may help you out.

Isn't Raylar developing a 550hp all aluminum small block 427? That would be a huge jump in power along with a significant reduction in weight. You would be both more efficient and faster. Not sure the cost, but likely not cheap.
