Blocks looked ok, heads are there, quad jets, looked like everything was there and supposedly ran when they were pulled. I'm going to talk with the guy again and get the specifics again.

Cracked blocks and heads can "look" okay until you have them magged. Scottie150 is dead on about the fact of two of everything. You can fix one side then find out the good side isnt so good and then fix that side. Not trying to be a buzz kill but knowledge is power. If you absolutely have to have that boat just expect to redo just about everything and get the price down on the initial investment-then plan on getting a second on your house to pay for what you need. Perhaps find a 10-20 grand parts boat that has what you need on it then transplant. Just my .02 bro......................

about $13500.oo is in the engines. 468 cu.in. there full roller engines & the dyno read 470 hp @ 5500 & 500 ft.lbs @ 4800. the key is to get longevity. i could have gotten more with more cam but i'm happy. same builder did these for me about 7-8 years ago. i blew a head gasket last summer so had them gone over completely. also added msd ignition.

No kidding, I can attest to that statement. (I have three of everything and replaced most of it, it sure adds up.)

Big question what are the 454's. The internals are important, what heads are on them? and if they are hurt. If they are 330's you will need new heads to make 450hp, if they are 420's the heads will support nearly 500hp with are nice hyd roller cam (hyd roller lifters $500/set). I have about $2500/eng in my Merc 425's that I just rebuilt, new heads solid roller cams, pistons and machine work. (these were running engines, parts at nearly wholesale cost from friends and doing all the labor myself at a friends shop)

Interior will be expensive if you need it all made again. I just re-upholstered my sunpad, rear seat, and bolsters for just under $1000, good deal from friend.

Drives you are looking at anywhere from $3000-$7000 if rebuilt. (my rebuilt lower was $800) my blown tranny was $350 for rebuild.

$70 for new 105 amp marine alternators, $50 for starter rebuilds, $150 for new dash switches.

My Paint job was $1800 from a painter who needed money BAD (took advantage of a situation).

And this was all done to a running boat that has been a work in progress.

Here's an example of the little stuff that adds up and gets you- today I went out and replaced the intake valves ( the water inlets to the seawater pump)since I am redoing the bilge- so lets see here , 2 valves, 2 couplers, some hose and and a couple of fittings and whamo!! $400.00!!! And trust me this is not the beginning nor will it be the end.:drink:

you got that right. i just picked up new lines for the trans coolers, there goes another franklin, and that was at farm & fleet, merc was $50 ea. and i needed 4..gett'en good at rig'n sh--t togather. the ends aren't stainless but i'm in fresh water & trans fluid is inside them so i don't think they'll rust any time soon. good enough for john-deere good enough for scarab

Ok, I have found another boat of interest. It is a 88 30' Scarab. It looks like it is in pretty good shape. It is on eBay with a buy it now price of $20,500. He also says he will take trades on a smaller boat (which I have). So I emailed him and am awaiting a reply. In the meantime, what do you guys think about it? Is $20k a reasonable price for this boat or a tad high. The NADA says average retail is $19,050 with the twin 454's. What are your alls thoughts? I hope Scottie150 chimes in!
