'86 with TRS's and originally Merc 425's Borg Warner. Just added more power and new interior should have out this weekend or next.

Any specific ?'s or just curious

I remember when I was really young, there was a gray one at the welcraft dealer on lake hopatcong. I used to love going there with my parents and looking all over the boat. I always wondered where it went. I know they had it for years before selling it. Back then it was the coolest boat ever for me.

Ive got a 88 with original 425s (just rebuilt) with bravos, what kinda speeds u guys seeing?

I raced a Panther in 1991 and the boat was awesome.

I was seeing 71gps with my 425's and TRS's (73.7gps with fast 3 blades but couldn't get on plane in 2' water). Just built some 590HP 469's. Last weekend was the first week on the water just breaking in the 2nd engine.

white scarab, any pics of that race boat?? only race Panther I remember seeing was Ben Perfected. and that was 2003 in St. Clair, MI

The best speed I ever saw was 71 on gps with no fuel and 3 people on board. I guess it was a fluke because for the rest of the season i was only seeing 67-68. Im spinning some f--- up 23 pitch mirages. This was last season... and the upper half of the motors were really tired. hopefully this year ill see some better speeds with the rebuilds and new exaust.

My 425's had the heads cut a little to bump up the compression a bit, I had stainless marine dry exhaust, and worked 25" props. I really thought you would be running 75. I guess the TRS aren't robbing as bad as I thought.

I should push 75 this year with a little fine tuning. There making just about 500hp. I cant wait to see. Keep me posted how u run with ur new power.

I always liked his black and red panther, and that ran good as I recall.

So you ran a single and blower @ 85 and 70 without the blower? thats great. How much power are you running in the single with and with out blower.

Just thought I'd mention in '88 your power options included either 425 TRS or 454 Magnum 365hp Bravo.

I believe the man with the highest speed with a panther,viper would be( ben perfected) here on the board.......His boat screams.....Dont quote me but i think triple digits....

NO argument there. His is the speed benchmark for all Panthers.

viper???? his is a standard '87 panther that originally came with 365's.

drasticcaddy I believe the 365's have GM rectangle port heads

I've seen it run over 104mph. It does scream...

Bravo came out in '88. 365 was a rectangle port head steel crank motor.
In '87 454 magnum was a alpha drive, motor with small heads 330 hp.

I saw him at a leopa run, that boat is a piece of artwork...

yo ROOKIE , what RPM were you seeing ?

At 71 I was seeing around 5150RPM and with the props that would run 73 I was running 5300RPM.

This weekend I am going to finally push the New Power into the 5500-6000 range. I hopefully won't forget the GPS. I am getting so excited!!!

I plan on running the new power WFO @ 6250RPM

Thanks for sharing, do you have anymore interior or dash pics? how bout some close ups of the business ends?

The interior isnt done yet... It actually has sit down seats in the front... I have new drop outs to put in also new guages but i have no time and would rather focus on getting her dialed in. Ill take some more pics this weekend were having a big b.b.q. with all the boys from Scream and Fly.:drink:
