Try Paul, I sold my boat to him a couple years ago. He may still be in love ... or ready to move on...

Hallo JB,
this is Jeff Brown's multiple Overall Production Class winning boat "Pure Insanity" in the 1977, 1978 seasons. He also leased her to late Al "popeyes" Copeland for a few races in the 1978 season. She's got re-built Kaama drives and is about to get re-powered and have new electrics put in for the next season. The boat also won several races 1984-1985 with then owner/driver Don Noble of CA. He was the one that rigged her with the great Kaama drives. Will send photos if You're interested in her without power. I'm in CA, so it's not like You're next door.

Sincerely,

Lars.

P.S. Stan Ware raced her with Copeland in 1978 and he has shown interest in her through the grapevine. Like to give him first shoot at her 'cause of sentimental reasons if he's proceeding. Got plenty of photos and race trivia with this, the most famous of the 29'9" Larry Smith Scarabs. D.S.

I am also in the market for a 38 or 43 LS Scarab. Staggered and 3 man bolster set up. There must be a few out there. Any help would be great!

Hey guys looking for quick education on the larry smith versions. How do you identify? I'm looking at a '78 30' flatdeck bare hull and was curious how to identify a larry smith version and what the benefits were over a standard scarab?

Also was there any kevlar boats in '78 or did that come later?

The first letter of the Vin # is best way to ID. It'll be either W or S.
Main benefit of LS boat is better layup (weight/strength) and usually better rigging. All boats were custom order so they vary a bit. Post pics and the guys here will help you a ton.
Good luck
