new boat no motors

hey everyone, I am new to this site and already love the info I have attained here. I need some advice. I have bought a 96 29 foot single. It has no motor and no outdrive. The advice i got from a respected boat buddy of mine is to get around 500 hp's and a bravo drive and I should be happy. Any thoughts?

Welcome aboard. If you can swing it you would definetley want at least 500hp. That would put you right about 63-64 maybe 65 in the right conditions. I have 635 or so @ 5lbs of boost and I'm running right @70 and saw 72 once:drink:. But I'm still working on the setup and x-dimension! I have a buddy with with a NA/540CI and he makes just under 600 and he sees 67-68 on a regular basis. They are heavy boats for a single and need some power to get them moving, but once you do you will love the ride. There is plenty info on here if you do a search. Let us know how it goes.

fast22, glad to be aboard, thanks. I appreciate the information, it really helps to get some actual numbers to compare to. I have some time before any of this is going to happen but will gladly share when I'm done.

go with fast22's advice and get a 540 Bulldog. Plenty of power to get the 29'r up and running. Treat the bravo gently though. You could drop in a 502/MAG but it would work pretty hard as a single to bring the boat up on plane easily. My choice would be the 540. Enjoy the ride.
