What would be a good MPH from a 96 22' Scarab w/ a 454?

jeff32 02-17-2009 07:20 PM

vossperformance 02-17-2009 07:40 PM

Had one with a built 454 5700rpm ran 79-81 with 27 mirage prop. fast boat that handled well for the size. Wish I had it back.

fastscarab22 02-18-2009 08:22 AM

Running a stock 330 motor, 23 pitch 3 blade 62 to 64, i have a hp 500 with little tweeks and with a shorty it will run 80 mph plus, put on steering and tabs and it will fly

Gladhe8er 02-18-2009 08:55 AM

I had a '96 22' with 330 HP 454. 62-63 with Mirage 23 and 25P props.

SCSRIVERRAT 02-18-2009 10:49 AM

i have a 23 with a 502 with a couple tweeks and i get 74 with a 26 or a 24 pitch prop with a little rpm differece

fastscarab22 02-18-2009 01:23 PM

To get a little more , i run a 27 mirage plus labbed runs well is the best blade i have run for speed, a 4 blade is great for tubing 26 scott

KSims1868 02-18-2009 03:49 PM

My 1989 22' (w/ 350 small block) runs up to 68 mph with a vented 23-pitch Lazer II prop.

trc2 02-19-2009 07:28 AM

when I had my 1997 22 scarab it had a 310 7.4 454 efi in it and it ran on gps 68 to 70 then I had a 454 mag 385 put in it and it ran 73 gps hope this helps this was with a 25 pitch 3 blade prop

jbraun2828 02-21-2009 08:21 PM

will run close to 70 with a mag, water has to be pretty flat

bobo1 02-22-2009 06:22 AM

I have a 1990 21 excel stock 7.4 3 blade quicksilver 61-62mph. boat weighs 3800lbs. i believe a 22' is 3200lbs. If that helps.

Unitek 02-22-2009 10:19 PM

My 22 stock went 62 mph on a hand held GPS
Then I did:
H/C/I 454 with a 175 shot of Nitrous ran in the mid 80's with a labbed 30 bravo1

Hi, how can you make 5700 rpm out of 454? I HAVE A VOLVO ENGINE 7.4 gi and with 25P prop it can only turn 4200 rpm not more, There is CMI headers added but no other modifications at all...

WHat i your suggestion?

The HP 500 fastscarab22 is referring to is a Merc 502ci 500 Horsepower engine. The tweaks you need to make your stock 330 500 horsepower is about $4000-$5000.

Can you make a list of parts i would need exactly?
Or who would help me out with that?

Thanks for the info on the fuel capacity ....I think it can go faster then that as well ......have mixed messages to thru hull...some say you gain horse power ...some say it is only for sound !

With exhaust you do gain HP if it is there, but it is not usually significant enough if that is the only thing you change. Usually the stock exhaust will support stock HP. If you start adding modifications that make your engine breath better then you will need get a better exhaust. You need approximately 15-20HP/ 1mph net gain in speed. (all hulls vary)
