Killer New Engine HP 450
:evilb: Late December we where out at one of our local lakes having a great time. Checked under the hatch as we always do and saw steam coming from the air filter. This was not a good sign. We took the boat to So Cal Speed and Marine. We found out that we had needed a valve job and the bottom end had some scoring. We decided not to rebuild and go new. We found a killer deal here on Offshore Only classifieds. Brand spankin new Mercury Racing 454 HP 450 from Victory Marine. We spoke with Dave at Mercury Racing and confirmed that the engine was blue printed, roller rockers, roller cam and balanced. Merc said it was probably really 465HP. We did not want to over stretch the drive so stayed with the 454. It was a replacement engine was produced till 2005. We jumped on it and WOW!! What a monster. We did our first trial run with it a week ago and picked 10 MPH and expect more when the engine is broken in and we have our prop "labbed". We are looking forward to our first trip of the summer. We are going to Laughlin the first weekend of April.
Mario is great at So Cal Speed and Marine. He is located in Moorpark Ca. He knows his stuff and is the kinda guy that doesn't sell you on stuff just to make a buck. Scott was kool too at Victory. He was honest and right on the money with the engine. I can't say thank you enough to both So Cal Speed and Marine and Victory Marine. They made my summer. 09 Summer that is!!! |

|
I KNOW THE FEELING I THINK WE WILL BE LEAVING SAT MORNING EARLY AS WELL, WE WILL PROBABLY LAUNCH AT JACK SMITH IN NEEDLES THEY JUST RE DID THE LOT AND ITS FREE TO LAUNCH UNTIL MAY THAT WE WE CAN GO SOUTH AS FAR AS WE WANT AND DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT SHALLOW WATER. KEEP ME POSTED, MY BOATS ALL WHITE WITH SCARB ON THE SIDES AND DECK. MY DIRECT EMAIL IS [email protected]

Sounds good to me. I have not launched at that Marina but I am happy to try it. Golden Shores is not the most convenient ramp and the facilities are kinda slim. My brother in law has a 22ft Crownline and he will be going too. I will keep you posted so we can hook up Sunday. My email is [email protected] :evilb:

Its finally here
Well, it is my first real trip with the boat since I put in the engine. I done about 6hrs at local lakes, now its time to go for it. Finally in Laughlin and will go on the lake or river tomorrow depending on the weather. Here until Tuesday for a long needed break. Hope she likes the river.................she will see a lot of it this summer. Just need to fine tune a couple of things. Really want to lab my prop when I get back before Havasu at the end of the month. Looking forward to meeting SCSRiverRat if I can. :ernaehrung004:

Well How Did She Run? Sorry We Werent Able To Meet Up. I Hope The Dog Is Feeling Better. I Am Going To Try And Make Desert Storm Will You Be Staying In Havasu Or Laughlin
|
We are staying in Havasu for the poker run and plan to go out on Wednesday night in time for the festivities. Not sure where we will stay yet it depends on if we take the dog. We will be there until Monday. The boat ran well, still have warning buzzer at 5300 RPM but there are no codes that the computer is throwing right now. Will look into it a bit further at Havasu when we take Mario (So Cal Speed and Marine) out with us for another test run. Let us know where you are staying. Info about the poker run is posted on Lake Racer site. Keep in touch. We will certainly get together this trip!!:party-smiley-004:

We are using a 24 pitch bravo. When we got the new computer Mario set the rev limiter at 5800. He will be out at the poker run and you can hook up with him as well. We are going to get the bravo labbed. We also ski with the boat, have a 19 revolution but have not run the boat with the revolution yet. We get slippage coming on to plane with the revolution but not the bravo. We have more hole shot now, and maybe able to go down to a 22 bravo for skiing. We will try skiing with the 24 to see what kinda pull we get before we do anything else. We are staying at the Islands Inn (on the island, the pink hotel!). |
Awesome I Will Be In Willow Valley North Of Needles And I Pln On Being In Havasu By 10 O Clock In The Morning.looking Forwrd To Seeing You There. Would You Think That We Would Be Anchored Or Beached. I Only Ask Because Of My Dog. She Cant Handle Being Confined To The Boat For Long Periods Of Time
|
We want to go to the Sand Bar and will try to go on Friday. The lake will be pretty choppy on Friday. We do like to make a beach somewhere if we can. We are now planning on taking our girl too. thyought about leaving her at home, but she hates it when we leave her. We take her pretty much everywhere we go. She is just getting older and I think the trips are harder on her too. When are you going out and how long are you staying?? By the way we tried the marina you suggested and it is wonderful. Better than Needles or Golden
Shores. |
I Will Be Leaving Friday Night And Coming Home On Sunday.i Know What You Mean About The Dog Mine Is A Puppy And Sometimes It Can Be Very Trying, She Even Jumped Out Of The Boat At The Sandbar And I Had To Go In After Her. So Im Not Sure If Im Going To Take Her With This Time Around. I Definitly Want To Watch The Big Boats On Saturday But If Its Blown Ou Like It Was Last Year Ill Probably Find A Nice Place Up River To Hang Out At( I Know Some Really Good Ones. Glad You Liked The Marina Sorry That They Started Charging Early This Year.
|
Don't know what our schedule will be on Saturday. We will have a doggy sitter come to the room for our girl for Friday and Saturday so we can enjoy on the boat. We will be at the Sand Bar but I am not sure what day. We may go to Havasu Springs for B-fast too. I will know better when we get there. We are meeting up with Mario (our mechanic) and one of our boating buddy's is going with us too. I will call you Friday night so we can meet up at some point. Look forward to getting together!! :ernaehrung004:

Was really great to see you at the shoot out. It was such a coincidence that you where right next to Mario. We will be heading to Laughlin for Mem Day, would actually to hang out a bit then. It was a bit busy and we did not have much chance to chat. We often run the river on busy lake weekends. Are you going out then?? John |
