anyone know anything about the boat in Jersey thats been on boat trader? is has 525sc's, looks like a clean boat. i may go look at it but it is a 11 hour drive and if anyone knows anything about it it might save me a lot of time.

bottom line is they are good fun boats but if you can find one with a Volvo setup, resale and public opinion aside, they are an even better boat. |
I know the boat in NJ as I live about 1/2 mile from the owner. It is in pretty good condition, not immaculate like advertised. The clear on the deck has some minor peeling and the vinyl has some tearing in the front bolsters (alot of the 33s had/have that) and there are a few minor abrasions here or there. It is possible he had some of these items repaired since I last saw the boat up close approx 1 yr ago. The motors are modified 525 SCs with (and here is the drawback IMO) solid lifters. They do, or did, run good. The boat would run upper 80s, very low 90s as I recall.

The volvo 500s and 600s were actually built by Innovation Marine for Volvo. they run fantastic. I have approx 240 hours and obviously 10 yrs on mine with nothing more than 1 $300 fuel pump needing replacement. The outdrives have required no work whatsoever. As far as maintanence goes, I see no real difference in the cost of Volvo stuff versus Merc. Neither are cheap!
The DPX driven boats handle WAY better. The fuel efficiency is also better all things being equal. Keep in mind it hard to stay off the throttle the way the boat accelarates w/ 600s. That being said, on long cruises where I can contain myself, the boat probably gets around 1.7-1.8 mpg. |

As with most boats it is most efficient at around 3000 RPM which gets you about 47 MPH. 3500 gets you 60 mph. 4000 about 70, 4500 about 80.
Top speed at around 5350 rpm gets you 92-93 mph. Standing start accelaration is close to 80 in 20 seconds. |
