Scarab speed issues.
 

I have an 85 scarab II Mostly stock 330 454's. I did bump the comp a tad and the cam is a comp. cam stock style replacement. It has TRS spinning 23 or 25 mirage (Spelling) We ran a poker run yesterday and got flat left in the dust in the slow group. Running around 3 grand it runs 35ish won't pull past 4 grand and mid forty's. Even at these slow speeds the mileage is very bad. The trans does not feel like they are slipping and the fact that the revs won't pull past 4. Is a 3 grand 35 cruise correct?

I don't think you have enough power to spin 25's. Still you are anywhere between 20-26 slip with 23or25's. Are your props in good shape?

I wouls try a test with some 21P Mirage

25's are too big for mostly stock engines.....i had mild motors with the merc 420 cams in my scarab II and couldnt pull the 25's past 4700rpm.....go with the 23's and see where your RPMs fall .....then you can either get the 25's re-pitched down or the 23's re-worked.

I have to add a correction. The trans is 1:1 the drive 1:1.5 The props are mirage 23P
