1989 26' Nova Spyder info
I'm looking at a 1989 26' Nova Spyder that seems to be in very good shape. 454 Magnum with Bravo 1 Drive, Silent choice exhaust, Swim Platform, cuddy with sink and porto-potty, snap in carpet, trim tabs, Eagle trailer, $15000.
Can anyone tell me if this seems like a good value if the boat is in as good a shape as it appears in the pictures? I plan on running the boat on Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence river. Seems like it might make a good Poker Run boat. Thanks, Tom |
Twins or single?

Single

Will take rough water well but with a single it wont be winning any races unless you get soem serious hp.
Its big for a 26ft. Most came with twin 350s, friend of mine had one with twin 300/350s, ran 60mph and could take some rough water without beating you up. |
good looking boats. there was a red one with new interoir , twin 350s really nice looking on ebay 3 months ago. he could not get 12k. with the trailer. i wanted to look at it but it was in misouri i think.

Current own currently has a 21pitch prop on it but said the previous owner had a different prop and claimed 58 by GPS. I'm not that concerned with speed.

price seems high I just bought a mint 30 sonic with twins for 15 grand

Price does seem high.

Price is high for a single. Many, many better buys out there in this climate. 20K can get you a flat deck 35' Cigarette with mild twins if you look hard enough.

If your in the market I would sell my Nova II with twin SBC's-Alpha's for much less then that.

For that price for a single, I'd be looking for a spotless engine, drive, and instruments and very good condition gelcoat.
If it's truely spotless and turnkey, the money isn't the major factor though. I learned that the hard way... bought an ST for $8k because it was such a great "deal" but with one thing after another, I now have another $7k into her. I let the current market twist my perception and get so excited over the "deal" that I didn't step back and consider condition enough, and it turns out I would have been much happier buying one at the "high" price end than gambling on one that was "ok" and then finding out I wouldn't really be happy until everything is redone. Don't get excited by a low price boat and trick yourself into saying "I can live with that" if you'll really end up replacing all those little imperfections over time anyway. When it's all said and done to bring mine to perfect with 0 hour engines and drives will bring the cost up to 31k. |
