hey,
I have a 1991 scarab cv 26 with 502 magnum with procharger giving 605 hp. What would you like to know?
I am lliving in Belgium, Europe

Yves - What speeds have you achieved? How many lbs of boost? What prop? I'm running a Procharged 454 in a Scarab Excel and would like to compare reuslts. Also, what is the advertised wieght of the Scarab CV?

Scott Mc 04-20-2002 09:31 PM

Advertised weight of the Scarab CV is 3200lbs. With 620hp I ran right around 77-78 mph. (I also spun a rod bearing that day, so the motor may have been just a tad tight.) ;) I believe that a 91 Scarab 28' excel weighs in around 4600lbs. Hope I could shed a little light on the subject guys. Later- Scott

Scarab and Scott MC,
thanks for your interest. I will be able to give you all what you ask for in a couple of weeks. This for a simple raison:

My engine, a 502 mag carburated, ported heads, inconel valves, gold rockers etc...has been put on a dyno a week ago. The raison why I did this is that I found after installation of the procharger 5 lbs of boost I didn't get the power I was thinking to get. My boat ran 72 mph with 26 bravo one prop with full load of fuel. On the dyno after correcting the timing ( was not ok ) and the jetting ( not ok , engine much to rich) they got 604 hp. When they changed exhaust from standard they got 674 hp with also a higher boost', untill now I don't know what boost. I am still waiting for the data sheets. What I also know is that the engine has enormous torque because my engine broke the ax from the dyno and on that dyno they tune porche turbo engines!
So now you understand whey within a few weeks I will give you full details. See you.:)

Yves and Scott -

Thanks for the update. I'm running a 454 + .030, rect heads, inconnel exhaust, ss intakes, 27" mirage, 4600 lbs, 7 lbs boost.
running 70 MPH at 5000 RPM in the Excel. I just added a set of EMI exhaust, we'll see in couple weeks if it makes a difference.
I also picked up a 26" bravo one.

What size carb and what jetting are you running? Also what cam are you running? I'd like to see 75 mph:p All suggestions welcomed.

Scott Mc 04-21-2002 09:20 PM

Yves, that sounds about right. You have me concerned however when you said that the tuners at the shop backed down your jet sizes and added timing plus more boost! ....I hope that they have some prior experience with a procharged system because I've seen holed pistons and popped head gaskets galore with non or poorly tuned procharged systems on 502's. I won't knock the sysytem though because when done properly they rank right up their with whipplechargers. Hope you see the speeds you're lookin' for.
P.S. I think that I had a 3 blade 27'' mirage prop when I ran my boat last. Spun it around 5000-5100. When I get my new motor in I'm hoping for mid eighties. It's a .60 over, 11:0:1 454 with a 4.250 crower crank and rods (496) plus I have it topped with the Brodix 2-plus heads and a Crower custom grind hydraulic roller and a ported Team-G intake. Should be right in the neighborhood or 700hp. Later-Scott
