454 \ 7 lbs boost - 70 mph 540 \ 7 lbs boost - 80 MPH PS - our boats look identical, even down to the decal only mine says Bowtie racing. |
Love the 28' Excel. Nice boat.

I have a 1990 31ft excel with stock 454's 365hp. I can't remember what the pitch. I want to say 3 blade Mirage 25's.
In any case I'm hitting between 62-65 mph 2 people with half tank of gas. And thats on GPS. |
What pitch prop are you turning and how many rpms was the motor?
I believe they are 23's, and I was humming around 4800 rpm
I bet you a tweaked 23-25p 3 blade would get you just about to 70.
when I got my excel 3 years ago it had a 3 blade 25 pitch prop which was totally wrong for the boat, should of had a 23p 3 blade with the 454. Anyway, my boat could barely get on plane with out the prop slipping so I think I would stay with the 4 blade.

i have a 28 excel that i just took for a test ride. i put a mild efi 502 with ke exhaust and am turning a labbed 24, with no trim (lines were backwards on trim pump) i only hit 64mph at 4800 rpms... i will be tryin other props and i switched my lines today...
