31 Thunder

Would anyone even consider hauling this boat with a 4door 4x4 ford f-150 5.4L??? Tandem axel eagle with surge????

F-150 is rated to 10k +/- towing capacity, no? If so, why not? I wouldnt go all over with it but it should work for occassional duty?

I am currently towing my 31 viper with a gmc 1500 4x4 5.3L with zero issues.

GM's 5.3 makes more torque than the ford 5.4 but not by much. I think you would be fine as long as the weight is distributed properly on the trailer. Keep the tongue weight down if possible.

We will typicality be towing 15 miles or so to the ramp but 10 or so trip to Norris where we have a place 240miles away??
Thanks for the info guys!

Invest in a transmission cooler for those long trips!!! My trans temp gets up a bit after about 75 miles.

that was towing @ 70 mph and a trailer with poor weight distribution!

I am not sure if I would. Just because the truck is rated for it doesn't mean its a good idea, IMO. Also, are you talking steel or alum trailer? Big difference in weight. I scaled my 2002 4x4 cummins attached to my Thunder on a steel trailer. Truck bed was full and boat was pretty full, moving, came in at 20k lbs. This is also with no fuel in the boat, which holds 140 gallons I believe. I figure the truck loaded was 8k lbs, so that leaves 12 for the boat and trailer.

On a side note, I would love to see a 1/2 ton gasser try to pull the hills around the rockies with that much weight. :poopoo:

Yeah, terrain is something to consider. It is all flat land around here. I would not even attempt a long trip with my truck/boat if it was heading to the mountiains or something like that!

What year F150?

For you people pulling these big boats beyond the safe limit of your trucks, please stay away from me and my family. I think I will stay here in the mountains where you guys can't get to. Put this question in the Trucks and Towing section, I dare ya.
