Water where it shouldnt

I did not know how to title this thread but the problem is this.

My Scarab 22 has two acess holes on each side of the motor. They give access to a little well on the back side of the motor mount plates. It is so you can get to the nuts on these motor mount supports.

I get water in them, I vacuum it out and then I get more. I am confident the water is coming through the round access pop off.

So should I get new access tops or do they all leak. Should I drill a little hole in each one to the bilge, seal something in the hole to allow water to run into the bilge but wet the core?

Ok i have since drilled drain holes in the back compartments to drain to main sump. I still get residule of off color water in these compartments around the drain holes after taking boat out. Are there any other ways to check the under floor compartments for water that is trapped? I believe that one of the former owner's left the cockpit open and the drain plug in during many many rains. Boat doesn't seem heavy. Does anyone have a schematic maybe on how the stringers are layed out?

mine looks the same but not as dirty....these holes on mine seem to be sealed except for the motor mounts and access caps.

I think it is coming fromt the bilge or lid

Same problem

My friend is having a similar problem anyone ever find out out where the water is collecting? He says his boat felt weird like it was leaning or full of water or going to sink last season and then he didn't use it again since.

On my Viper the cockpit water drains in the side compartment you mention then to bilge through hole at back of stringer by transom to bilge. This could be restricted over time with debris.

Find the two cockpit drains. Look to see if bulkhead between engine compartment and cockpit have blockage.

Usually there are two stringers. One on each side of fuel tank then the area your discussing on the other side of stringer. Usually that area is open under floor except for bulkheads which normally have large opening so as to not get clogged. Hope this helps

Next to the motor mounts there are two Wells with inspection ports on top one of them has water in it and there are signs of pieces of foam where is the foam in this boat?

Also there are no drain holes in these Wells apparently the Builder expected them to stay watertight .

I believe there is water trapped in the boat and any foam is probably very waterlogged

I checked it out for him today.

He said last time he had it out if felt weird like it was plowing and going to sink . He was afraid it had water in it because the carpet in the cabin was always wet but he's been keeping the bow up high and had a cover on it.

I see water stains on the cabin liner near the deck/hull seam. I think that's why his floor is getting wet. I looked in the inspection hole above the gas tank. I don't see any sign of water. His floor is solid everywhere the boat seems well built. It's a 1996. I drilled a hole in the floor under the foot rest and the wood was dry .

The only place I see water is in those Wells in the back . They really should have drains.

We took it for a ride and it did 53 mph gps. I'm not an IO guy so one of the first things I asked as I was driving it away from the dock was, 'does your trim gauge work because you can't see the drive'. He said he thinks so . I was pushing the up button on the throttle and the gauge wasn't moving . So I used the "trailer" button on the dash and it went up.

I got it up to 53 mph with the wind. He's a novice boater and never ran it to top speed cause it's always too rough where he goes.

I don't think this boat is water logged I think he was driving trimmed all the way down and didn't know it .

53 seems like decent top end for a 5.7 in this boat right?

What should this boat motor and trailer weigh anyone ever put one on a scale?

Also we poured water in at the very forward most part of the cabin there's an opening and it did drain into the center bilge under the engine .

I had water in the starboard engine mount well of my 1996 scarab. This was when it was about a year old. I dried it out and left the cover off for over a year and it never got water in it again. I have always wondered where the original water came from.
