Transom rot and using Coosa board to repair?

Kind of bummed found some rot around the sb trim tab(you can lift up on the trim tab and see the transom flex). More than a little concern that my old school ride (87 Scarab III 34') would see Davy jones if i hit the wrong wave. Was considering cutting out the section and replacing with some COOSA Composite board found a great deal on some over at hamiltonmarine.com(love their prices). Any body do a partial repair on their transom with success?

Thanks

Coosa is not good for compression areas.

I'd do the right thing once and for all... cut everything out and start with a new, COMPLETLY solid transom....

Chances are you have more than one area with issues. Keep looking, especially around any thru-hull fittings, drain plugs, etc. That will determine how much you end up having to replace.

+1, pull your thru transom exhaust pipes, good place for water to come in.

Drilled some pilot holes across the transom (inside and will reglass), thus far its about 2x3 area. Probably more not sure yet

Yep did that first, solid wood across all four (problem seems to be localized to the trim tab area, and about 1.8 feet away from drive...

I just learned about the trim tab pull test. Does anyone ever do a tap test with a hammer? I see the Survey guys doing this and often wonder if it is all for show?

Good luck, my 38KV had a new transom in 2003. Apparently a common issue with boats from the 80's.

Yeah I used to be lazy and left it at the Marina in a boatel; and relied on the service manager:angry-smiley-038: to inspect my boat; I met this guy last year at the Miami boat show last year that told me about the trim tab test; said its caveman but effective. So here we are
How did your transom: turn out? What did they use marine plywood, Coosa or something else?
