Staggered 38 Scarab
 

Has anyone staggered any late eighties 38 Scarabs? Just thinking ahead to my next project, am selling my 34 after this season and want to find an 88 or 89 Excell to play with. My plan is a no frills wave smasher, no cabin (maybe carpet) with full crash bulkheads and full race bolsters. Simple durable power, 525 EFI's or low hp blower motors with Konrads or something.

Are there any later 38 straight bottom staggered boats out there? I know they use to do some of the 377's but thats a completely different animal in terms of build and balance.

I got no prob being the first one. Come to think of it i have never seen or heard of one other then the few old 377"s i saw with factory staggered TRS's . I am thinking i can full stagger a bravo XR (to keep it short) set up without wiping out to much cockpit space. Maybe tuck the forward one under the bench, move the tank (mabye switch to saddles) . . . . .

based off mecury drawings:
staggered b1 transom to pulley is 82" approx
staggered trs transom to pulley is 92" approx.
IMO theres no reason the forward engine could not be moved back up to a foot,

i got a theory about going staggered b1, c/w balance, lcg, etc. based off the boat i got see earlier this month

Since its basically the same hull as the Larry smith version maybe you could get some measurements off one of those to give you some guidlines.

This will get interested but why an Excel.. on the other hand there's plenty of Staggered LS 38's on the market.. come to think of it right of the bat I know at least 3 LS 38KV's if not the 4th one also , being the most famous one...how many vere there made in the first place :whistle:

Regarding Wellcraft doing staggereds...I think they did some one offs but never heard of an 38 Excel, maybe cause they had Lambos to offer if needed to be exotic.

Mikey i really just like the look and trim on the 88 and 89 Excel. Dont care for any of the LS boats (for me) although i know they are light years better and most KV prior to 88 were build without a great deal of attention to detail. I really like how the straight bottom 38's run and the hull design carried from the first flat decks through the early 90's till the step boats came along. Not looking to build a speed demon but rather a wave crusher that is very purpose built and i think staggering would help. The 88's and 89's are kinda hard to find and I'm not sure why those stuck in my head or what the differences were after those years, for some reason i think the dash and wind screens were changed.

Just poking around for info for a future project :D

I always kinda liked those but not for this project to hard to get them to move. its one of those boats with 450's you might see fifty five . . . . with 800's you might break sixty lol
