My p29 winter project
With winter in full swing it is time to get ready for summer. Removing engines and drives tomorrow. On #22. Having transom replaced along with all of the holes from the ridiculous stereo patched. Sending out the drives, I had snapped something at the end of last season. If I have any other extra money I might build a few 383s. Does anyone have any numbers on what a p29 runs with 400-425hp. Just wondering. Will post pics as engines come out.

Not a p29 but did the same rebuild last year on my 31. Pulled engines, had transom and stringers replaced then i rerigged. It was a lot of work but I feel alot better about the boat now.

Drives and engines are out. just need to remove tabs and gimbals, Will post pictures soon
I have a friend that had a p29 with 383 425hp but he took the black hawks of and it ran 85mph range
Finished removing everything today brought the boat home. Will post pictures soon
Did you figure out what broke on the drive?
Not yet sending them out this week. Looking to upgrade clutches and gears
Good luck with the project. I have the Bravo 4V 383 Mag Strokers from Merc (Crate Motors). They have 350hp with the stock exhuast with the BH drives. Best I have seen is 76mph on GPS. I know my props need to be cleaned up. I can't imagine that will account for much more than 1 or maybe 2 mph. Another 150hp should get you into the 80's.
how much do the P-29's weigh?

Just bought two 350mpi's with prochargers, I'm thinking sell my old engines and making 383 procharged sbc with about 550hp a piece. That should get me to at least 79mph :lolhit:
Dropped the boat off for the transom and stringers to be looked at.
so that's all I can say is I hope the boat is done by 4th of July......NO PRESSURE!!!.......... and the Old Town too!!:poopoo:
by the way wheres all the pictures you keep talking about?
Pictures will be up next week when I catch a break, and one boat is going to be enough this season thanks. Boat is off trailer and transom is being torn apart. Next on the list is replacing bent and split fenders and trailer bunks.
Picked up engines yesterday, I found out that the procharger setup is th 7psi system and not the 5psi, so now the engines are putting out 540hp. Time to get them on stands and start ripping them apart. Anyone want to buy two 350 mag mpi 300hp :)

Anything new with the project?
Here are all the pictures I have finally. Also there is a picture of the new gauges too. As far as the project. They did find rot in the center stringer, which is bing replaced as we speak. I did weld new fenders on the trailer last Saturday, and I am waiting on some quotes on engine parts so that I can get the engines assembled quickly. Looking to build some mild procharged fully forged 383s. Hoping to get around 600 hp a piece.

Just paid for my new parts for two stout, fully forged 383s to bolt up to the prochargers. Projected 600hp a piece. We will see what the Dyno says though.
Beautiful boat, good luck with the project.

Transom is coming along nicely. Going to have it painted yellow, stealing Kevin's idea http://i790.photobucket.com/albums/y...to/image-8.jpghttp://i790.photobucket.com/albums/y...to/image-7.jpg

Nice project!! I had a Scarab 29 with Bravo 1's on it and prochargers on the stock 350 Mag MPI's. It ran in the upper 70's with 4 lbs of boost. Your's should really haul the mail!
Thanks, I'm hoping so. We will see next season. I'll post some more pics soon, boat is coming along nicely. It's taking awhile, but it's looking good.
Looking good! It's amazing how all of these scarabs need transoms. I was going to upgrade to an avs but would hate to have to go thru another transom replacement.
Keep up the good work. |
Finally got back to this project, not going another summer without the boat. Painted the trailer, installed spare tire holders, new brakes and bearings, new tires. Next boat is going to engine builder to get engines and drives installedhttp://i790.photobucket.com/albums/y...oto/image.jpeg http://i790.photobucket.com/albums/y...o/image_2.jpeg http://i790.photobucket.com/albums/y...o/image_3.jpeg http://i790.photobucket.com/albums/y...o/image_4.jpeg http://i790.photobucket.com/albums/y...o/image_5.jpeg http://i790.photobucket.com/albums/y...o/image_6.jpeg http://i790.photobucket.com/albums/y...o/image_7.jpeg http://i790.photobucket.com/albums/y...o/image_8.jpeg

Looks great keep us updated.
Fantastic! Subscribing to this thread, gotta keep after you and James (502SS) and get some Scarabs back out on the lake!
Justin |
Looking awesome man. Keep after it.
I want to see some pics of this Outerlimits that you just purchased. Can't wait for the summer
looks good .... I don't care what some people say the hawk is a good drive if used as designed and I think you get some decent power in there and youll be happy. I just wouldn't go over 550 a side. the hawk really don't like much more than that. we tested a bunch of hawks for merc when I was younger. I spent two or three summers thrashing those things. fun drive great concept just needed some tweaking.
What happened is anybody home?
Ran into some issues and poor timing, I actually have to get with Justin soon and get it kicked back into high gear now that we have some other projects complete and out of the way. A lot of subtle changes have been made to the rigging, and trying to get everything perfect.
We have one in the family with Blown 400's that needs to be finished and tested.
