29 scarab re-power/restored

Just got my motor back from the machine shop and figured I would share some photos! Made another 150 more hp then before! Went from a mpi mag to a carb set up! Motor made 550@5500 and 580 ft tq@4200! With the new stringers and transom I'm Not sure what she will run but well see! She ran 63 before in perfect conditions! I'm just going to start with my 23 mirage and go from there! Here or a few pic of the boat also I just did new interior and paint last year, along with the trailer all redone!

Mike S. 05-08-2014 03:48 PM

Thanks guys hopefully she'll run alright and have some mid rang power!

5050 05-08-2014 09:52 PM

Very cool. That should wake it up. In the same process with my 38 but I sold 502mpis and started from scratch to some 572s. Post some numbers after you run it and get it propped

Jfoster 05-08-2014 11:25 PM

looks great. Who did the transom and stringers?

Mike S. 05-10-2014 01:08 AM

Thanks again guys I'll post some numbers as soon as can! Also Jfoster victory marine in league city tx. did it! And a VERY good job at that!

Jfoster 05-10-2014 02:11 AM

Ok cool thanks. They did my yearly service.

How fast does yours run with your set up?

I'll post more progress pic here in a few, motors all in and ready, just having some wiring gremlins I'm trying to work out!

Mine will run 74 all the time it has bumped 75-76 a couple of times. I'm not running alot of boost or timing, I'm sure it has more in it but I don't want to work on the engine for a while.

MINK 05-22-2014 03:44 PM

Love your boat, well done

hblair 05-26-2014 07:52 AM

Great looking and sounding Boat! I hope to be in the water too in a few weeks.

hullofjustis 05-26-2014 08:07 AM

Boat looks great and sounds like a heathy cam is in her did you dry the exhaust up to avoid reversion?
If you want a couple more mph put a -2 inch Imco lower on it.
I had a 97 w/825 hp and a -2inch shorty and it ran 85 mph. Loved that boat

Mike S. 05-27-2014 01:56 PM

Thanks guys! And one day my plane is to put a -2 shorty on! Just time is all lol

Mike S. 06-02-2014 11:58 AM

Well got the boat out Sunday, and the New boat motor ran flawless! Picked up 10mph with the old propping (23p merige) a whopping 70mph @ 5300 bounced off 5400 once! lol! But that's better then the 60 wide open before Got a little more left in her, but going to have to get some new props for the power! She comes out of the hole decent but a little slow! I know that's got to do with the props!! But at least I have a start now!! All I'm all I'm pretty happy with her!! Anyone got better thoughts on propping?

1990LarsonSenza250 02-20-2018 10:50 PM

Nice looking Mirage bud! Ive got a 1990 250 Larson Senza. does 63 and Id like to add another 10-15MPH to that! What did the engine work cost you??

Mike S. 03-05-2018 12:26 PM

About 7k back then! But I had to buy a lot of stuff! I went from eco to carb. I’ve redone it again sense then and add -2 shorty and gear change, now with the power I’m back fighting propping!

Mike S not to hijack your mature thread but you seem to be knowledgeable on the 29s
I notice most 29' Scarab owners have tri axle trailers, some tandem
I am looking at a 29' Scarab 1998, Single 502 .
I presently have a 29' Fountain CC , dry weight 5,500 lbs with a 2000 Magic Tilt tandem axle trailer which is rated for 9080lbs.
I have rebuilt the trailer and was wondering if there is any reason why it would not be satisfactory for the Scarab.
I would rather keep my trailer than trade for the tri axle that is with the boat if it would work.
Comment please.
Thx

I rebuilt my triple 3500 lb axle (10,500 lb) trailer for my twin 30' Panther with tandem 6000 lb torsion (12,000 lb) axles and never looked back. The triple shackles was a mess. You should be ok, the 29' I believe is 6300 lb dry.

You will be fine with the tandem trailer! My buddy has the same boat and he says it pulls like a dream on his alum. Tandem! I have a Tripple steel but that’s only because when I bought it, it came with the boat! I was going to go with a alum. Tandem but ended up fixing my tripple axle and its now is a real nice trailer!
