1990 larry Smith 31 Viper thinking of selling witout or with out power
I have a 1990 Scarab Larry Smith Edition 31" Viper that some of you know on here. I am thinking of selling, but want to keep my power (496 HO's) with about 330 hours on motor's. Would be willing to keep my drivers also (XR tops w/ none XR gears 1" shafts IMCO's 3: shorties with 1" spacers. The hull has around 200 hours on the meter, and I updated some gauges speedometer and tach's. I have a Garmin 740S that an or not go with hull. Latham power steering and K planes. I am newer to boats, So ask any questions or feedback. It was surveyed spring of 2013 and did great. It is the black and white on around Baltimore. The trailer works but not in great shape, and would be bill of sale. Thanks

The 1990 Viper advertised back then was NOT a Team Scarab 31 by Larry Smith. It's a Wellcraft 31 Viper with the carbon composite layup, which is better than the regular layup
by Wellcraft those days, but far from the state of the art builds by Larry Smith. The boat is currently in N.Y. and no longer in Maryland. It's black and white, newer power and not for sale officially, but most things and people are for sale unfortunately/fortunately depending how one looks at life. I agree with F-2 Speedy; the only things that makes sense for someone who wants a Larry Smith quality Scarab is to let Dan at Team Archer build one. If somebody is on a budget, but desire big reliable power, well then Dan's got many engines/drives and other equipment with very little use that Dan as always stands behind having tested them all. I personally would have a 31 built by Dan and go that route. Two SBC or BBC Teague or Mercury Racing engines and drives pre-owned from Dan, then the boat may be financed and insured as new and I'd have a great survey value, and the peace of mind that if I'd want/(or have to) sell in the future I've got a unique and desirable boat for the next caretaker, who'd have an easy time getting it financed when buying of me. Larry said in several interviews and privately that he liked the 31 the best. With its wider 8' 6" beam it's extremely capable in rough seas and the hull's running characteristics is very predictable and impressive into the lower triple digits, then it's like most Scarab boats, only for the very experienced when getting above 110 mph even in a 38 or 43. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...2502670f80.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...c6075aec9f.jpg |
