weight of P-29s
 

Does anyone know the weight of the P-29 scarabs? Article from Powerboat mag in 96 says 5500. The newer 29s with twins weigh 6300. Is it possible that the P-29s were, or are for that matter, 800 lbs lighter? I have a 2001 29 that I want to put Blackhawk drives on but I am wondering about the weight diff. and the cut-out heights for the drives as well. Any input would be appreciated.

Mark, I own a p-29 myself. I think the bottom of my boat is different from yours. If you read the article it does say something about a Larry Smith bottom. Not a 100% on that. Also they used kevlar I think that is lighter? Also your x dimention is different. If youd like I could measure it for you. The blackhawks are verry stable in rough water. Ihave also done a little engine work. How fast is your boat now?

Scarab P-29, If you would measure your x dimension and let me know it would be a big help. You could probably give me the measurement to the bottom of the transom bracket since the bravo and the blackhawk use the same bracket. If you would give me that number, and let me know where you measured it from I would appreciate it.
Does your boat in fact weigh 5500 lbs? The P-29s were layed up with kevlar, but 800 lbs diff. is alot in glass work alone.
The bottom of the regular 29s have a modified delta pad. What does the bottom of your P-29 look like?
The boat currently runs 69-70 with the Bravos.

Mark I can't find a good spot to measure that from. Take a look and tell me what you think. My buddy rack stores his boat next to him is a newer 29 I will take a look at it. Its just at the end of my sreet.

Scarab P-29
Can you measure straight down in a plumb line, from the center of the bottom of the bracket, to wherever it hits the bottom of the boat. I know its a little hard because it is in the V of the bottom, but maybe if you measure along a short level? I dont mean to be a pain but some of this info is hard to come across and I just dont want to waste money on something that wont work. Thanks.

Mark I did as you said, I measured down from the plastic box that houses the trim lines. Yours may be different. It is 5 7/8" I used a level. Let me know how this compares.

Thanks for the info. Did you measure from the center of that box downt to the vee? If you did it seems that your transom mounts are about 1 1/4 inches higher than on mine. I wonder how that would affect the perf. of the blackhawks on the boat. Thanks again.
