1999 33 avs - Hour Meter
I am currently looking at a 1999 33 avs with twin 502 (415 hp) and the owner states that it does not have an hour meter gauge but has to be plugged in at a dealer to determine the hours on it. This doesn't seem right but I wanted to ask on this forum. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am relatively new to powerboating and need all the help I can get.
Thanks in advance. |
I'M NOT AN EXPERT
However, this sounds correct -- we have a 2000 7.4 MPI and this was conducted when we bought it. I'm going from memory but the only thing that wasn't printed off was the exact time/hours at specific RPM's. I don't know if the memory chip in our boat could do it or wasn't a feature. For sure if you are taking this to a dealer - I would have a compression check etc., done -- and for sure have the outdrives looked at. If they are out of alignment - it could cost big bucks for new couplers -- Money well spent. Hope this helps All the best and above all BE SAFE!!!! 3pointstar |
My 99 didn't have hour meters either

Most 33 AVS do not. Even if they did, it would not be prudent to go by this as they are often inaccurate based on circumstance. Have it scanned and you are much more likely to get an accurate accounting of hours, assuming no re-power has been done.

Just for the record, my 99 AVS does have hour meters. Like the other guys have said though, they're often inaccurate.....

Spend the $$$ and buy a scanner then test every engine you look at. $200-400 of well spent money when looking at $50-75K boat.
I wouldnt trust what the hour meter any way. Who knows what the other owners did. |
