Cleavers? Really?

This may be a dumb question, but why do so many older scarabs run cleavers?

I've seen them on more old 300's with TRS than not. Does that hull/setup surface?
I feel like they'd be buried and thus there are better/cheaper/faster prop options.

No doubt cleavers look really fast on the trailer... but...

Am I crazy?

If it's an old trs boat, people need to spend $600 and upgrade the props. They've come a ways since 1985....
But if it's a speed master boat that's all there is and what they're designed to work with.

Same reason a late 60's Vette doesn't have 315/35/20's on the rear.

As years go on, newer technologies and better availabilty become much better.

Cleaver's where pretty much the 'performance' prop.

^^^ What they said. My 89 38 Excel with TRS came with cleavers. It took about an hour to get on plane...

Now with simple Bravo 1 props it gets on plane almost instantly.
