What is your opinion of this 38?

Do Yall have any comments? http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...ab-o47765.html
We drove the boat today; 4000rpm 50mph, 4500 rpm 56 mph. Seems slow. Don't know if the boat was trimmed correctly. Any comments about this boat appreciated.

From the pics, looks like a nicely restored scarab. When was it restored and what all has been done? Price seems to be reasonable. All white with no windshield, looks good.

AVS started in 1998. A non avs like this one ran low 70s with 500 hp. If Kevlar boat it will be stamped Kevlar under transom serial number.

Was 4500 all it had it or were you not pushing it? Trimmed in will do it pretty bad

The glass is mostly nice, bad beach rash is the only issue. The upholstery is decent, faded, needs repair in a couple places. The cockpit needs love. Trailer is painted and could use paint and a little tlc. Motors run strong.

The cabin on the 38s has lots of details and features that I don't see on the 33s, such as shelves and lighting. And that cabin is going to require some time on a lot of minor issues.

As for restoration the owner has had the boat for a long time and over the years has done some small glass mods ( moved engine ventilation grate and replaced with metal grate on top of the engine hatch), removed the fridge from cabin, and designed his own interior, which is done very well bur upholstery looks like it has been beat by the sun.

We weren't pushing it hard. I suspect you are right about the trim, I asked while we were aboard and was told that one need not trim big boats as one does the little ones. Yet the driver himself seemed to be confused about which direction the buttons were trimming the out drives. Mighta smoked a fattie before launch?

Wish i would have known that yesterday I would have checked.

I would be cautious of a boat I did not run full throttle. They need to be turning same rpm wide open or there may be an issue. If it has the hp stated trimmed in the boat should run 65-70. Regarding trim a step bottom normally does not require a lot of trim as compared to a non step. A non step Scarab 31,38,43 likes a lot of trim. On stock 31s we got more speed past the trim limit so we used the trailer button to get more trim
