nice progress Heath ! starts to look like a boat again !

Im new to this forum and found this thread when I was looking around, and I must say that you caught me from the first beginning.. I have now read all the pages from 1 to 74 and cant wait for next update. Really fascinating and interesting project. Im from Sweden, I saw that there was another guy from Hungary?? if I remember correctly.. anyway, somewhere in Europe. Like him I love how they builded boats at the 80's and this boat is one of the coolest in my opinion, I love the design!

Thanks guys, got a pallet with a roll of 1708, more white gel, and what I hope is the last 5 gallon pail of vinyl ester. Did some trimming on the companionway door opening. Started removing the cockpit floor for glass work. I glasses the transom and tabbed the engine bulkhead in place.

The bulkhead and transom are gonna be glassed in place before the stringers go in so any unlikely future rot will stay where it started and not wick to any other wood since they won’t be touching one another like they were originally...

The new rubrail came in. Look how much thicker it is than the original. It came from rubrail.com.

How much was shipping on that?

Here’s a photo of popping old fiberglass off the bottom of the boat. The glass that was added after the original mold glass, although stuck pretty good, can be broken loose in most places. I tried to do this wherever it was possible. I tabbed the engine stringers in today and plan to finish glassing them in tomorrow...

Looking for input...

This boat originally had the bilge pump in the rear in front of the transom. My 30 footer has the bilge pump mounted in the front of the bilge. Wondering if the’s 38’s all had the bilge pump in the rear? Do they sit lower in the rear when in the water? Is there some reason they did that? Would be much more serviceable with the bilge pump mounted in the front of the engine compartment. Thoughts?

Well they do sit low in the rear and water collects at the transom first especially when coming up on plane so my vote would be at the transom. I never had to service one, never had a bilge pump puke on me but maybe I got lucky.
