Old school staggered scarab 377
So I was browsing craigslist and stumbled upon a.....what looks to be...OLD scarab 377 in Kalamazoo Michigan (I live in NY, I get carried away on Craigslist). It looks like it needs a TON of work but it has staggered motors. I was wondering if there was anything special about this boat being it had staggered set up. I also was wondering how long ago boat manufacturers started staggering motors. Anyone know anything. Type scarab into Kalamazoo Michigan craigslist.

No most of the original 377 scarabs were staggered. They started staggering the engines in the 60s helped with the balance of the boat and got the drives closer together which gave the props more lift and the boat runs faster with less boat in the water.

Interesting sales pitch....
I liked the Miami Vice reference and the "Crocket rocket".He pumps you up about those amazing engines then tells you that one doesn't work! He also mentions the brand new teak but obviously didn't look closely at his own photographs. The final blow is when he says "Take it to the lake and play today. Even the batteries are fresh." I'm still struggling to get over the engine that won't turn over..... Looks like a huge project but in the right hands (not mine) anything is possible! RR |
^^thats what I was thinking! This guys ad is nuts but would be an awesome project, but way out of my league. And I'm broke.

Motors look Fresh out of a Junkyard truck.

Maybe they are fresh motors dressed to look like junk yard motors!!! So I hear staggered motors are so great for some of the reasons mentioned above. I would also think working on them Would be quite a bit easier. Why did manufacturers not make all their twins that way? Space?

And I see it has basic instructions so even the guy who wrote the sales pitch could use it! RR |
That piece has been for sale faaaaaaaaaar longer than what is shown in the ad. I'd wager it will still be for sale next season too.
