302 soft spot in floor
not my boat but my uncles. its a 2001 the spot is by the console. from what I understand this is common. whats is he going to face fixing this?
|
Some people will say to cut the spot that is soft and fix it that way, but if it were me, I will seperate the deck from the hull and fix it properly. Not to be a Debbie downer, but I could almost guarantee that there is alot more wet wood and soon to be soft spots down there.

Actually the top deck is usually very dry with only a couple small soft spots. If the rest of the boat stringers, bulkheads, transom are solid I would not split it. It would be a lot faster and a lot less expensive to just fix the small soft spots.

Probably lots more bad core in there.

Yeah , they are usually a lot worse once you get it apart . Usually starts around the console , for every soft spot there is usually a foot or two , if not more of rot . But most of the time it's all rotted out , just hasn't softened up yet .Picture scraping it out with a shovel . Boat Haus has re-done quite a few 302's , have seen his work on another forum . Does top notch work .

I'm looking at 302's and found this thread. Just wonder, what would this repair cost?
