I have a 99 33 avs ,502 mags. james

99 33' AVS 502's 81mph on GPS
Sea yea what do you have done to your avs mine stock would only run 74 75 on gps i put imco 2 inch shorter lowers on and picked up 2.5 mph. I have a lot of stuff to go on mine starting next week 800 hp keith eickerts, xr drives with the shorter lowers and stellings stand off boxes with a 1 inch raise. I am waiting on a few efi parts.
I have drove a 33' with a pair of 600 volvo dpxs. The boat would run 98mph on the speedo and was bouncing off the rev limiters.
what do you need 00 33 avs hp 500 apba F2 - 80 HERBOTTRACING

SCARABJ
I'm running Gil Big Guns Offshore dry exhaust and K&N flame arrestors. Changed 29p props to 30p Bravo 1's. |
I run one of my customers boats that I built, '97 33 avs started with 502 efi's on M-1 Prochargers(approx700) , lightning header (with silent choice) modified computers and nose cones ran consistent 96MPH on radar 97 mph radar was the best with this combo just put on 2 inch shorter drives along with totally new engines still 502 but carbureted with m-4 Prochargers (approx 900) ran 102MPH on radar and blew an upper right at the gun may have went faster. I have ran several props etc. on this boat, it always runs good as far as handling but still has crappy prop slip numbers overall the hull is slow. But probably handles the best of all fast v's I've seen.

Think theres a relation there?? Its not too slippery so it handles well..vs. slippery and fast and handles like **** |
no kidding jb you must be a hydrodynamic engineer. The point was these guys up top are talking of some speeds i don't beleive this boat ran 82 in hot boat tests with hp 500's ( 940 propshaft hp) I used to have a velocity 32' that I ran at radar 80MPH with only 454 mags (700 propshaft hp) and it handled just fine if you know how to drive it.
Ouch, Been on two 30/32 velocity's w/454mags that had trouble hittin 70 - 72, heck it couldnt even run with his brothers 31 sonic with 454's in some water. They must have gotten duds or really just cant drive...
i agree those must have been duds this one was a '97 model full interior radared 77 with 26" hydromotive four blades hit the 80 mph flat with 28" over the hub exhaust choppers from a buddies outboard boat, tough to get on plane with but rode high and fast this was the actual boat used for photos on a bunch of their ads with the red hull sides

Scarab 33 AVS
In answer to your question, yes I have a 33' Scarab AVS. What kind of information are you looking for?
i have a 99 33 avs on stock 502 pwr 80.0 on gps
w/ the stock pwr 80.0 is respectable speed considering the boat weighs 8600 lbs w/out fuel or pax. Im currently building two low 600hp GM 502's, holley carbs{830hp}, merlin heads, brodix intakes, crane cam 632lift. Being relatively new to the 33, I have a couple of questions for anyone please. First what props should I expect to turn, I would like to turn around 5400-5600 rpms and second, what kind of top end should I see. Thanx

I wonder what tim wanted to know??? liquor man are you going to stay with the 1.50 brovos if so 32 or 34 pitch with 600 hp a avs should run 92 to 94. their is a guy on this board that has some 800 hps in his it runs 105 but has alot of other things ie. raised x and ext boxes. mine is apart now and i am doing the same. james
fat chance of that, I was running approx 700 hp with 1.36 drives and 32" bravo props (these were original 30's pitched by mercury racing to 32 before they even made 32's) this boat radared 96 at 5300ish rpm's 1.50 gears with 32" and 10% slip which i have never seen from that hull will only get you 90MPH the boat I run has always had around 15 to 17 percent slip and improved very little with the addition of the 2" shorter imco drives(although the boat handles alot better at high speeds with them) If you are going to put any kind of power even only 600horse you will want the higher gears to spin a smaller pitch prop. In my findings on this boat the steep blade angle makes the boat fairly squirrly at high speeds (90 and above) I ran a set of lab finished 36" bravo's on it once and it handled like crap at speeds in the low 80's nothing like a non labbed pair of 32 's. I ended up running this boat with 28" non labbed bavo ones's on drives with the Imco lowers which makes the ratio like a 1.21 turning 5800 rpm's blew up a stern drive at the radar gun and went thru at 102MPH this combo at 17.5% slip shows 104ish just to give an idea of what is required to make this boat fast. Not that any one carees but the GPS read 108 when the radar said 102 I beleive the radar! This speed is listed in the new powerboat with bud on the cover in the shootout winners this boat is V3P2 class i did however get beat by charlie hamman i thik he went 105

BILGERAT COULD YOU GIVE ME A CALL SO I CAN PICK YOUR BRAIN A LITTLE SEEMS LIKE YOU KNOW A LITTLE ABOUT A SCARAB 615-480-3150. THANKS
bilgerat do you know doug fisk?? also I have been on a 33 avs radared at 92 with dpxs 600 hps 5350 they only make 560 hp is the dpxs that much more efficient than the merc setup??
James
how are you making out with your project? I though I have not heard from you because you were out beating on that new avs. |
Scarab J I do know who doug fisk is I met him a few years back at the shootout here just after he wrecked the baja he was still on crutches, as for the volvo setup it's hard to say because I have no idea what their proppeller pitches mean f4 etc. how many inches of pitch is it? but that would be a fair sounding number with that power assuming that those dual props are more effecient.
Hey Bilgerat, Im actually the one building the two 600hp chevys for the 33avs posted under liquorman. Thanks for the helpful reply, but that just brought up more questions, like with the 1.36 gears, what props might work best, I guess what Im thinking is Im currently turning 28's 5100 rpms on stock 502 415hp, so would that mean that I could possibly turn the same props w/ different gears{28p props, 1.36 gears, 5200-5400rpms w/1200hp} Just a crazy idea. Hey one more, how does blade angle affect the handling of a hull like mine, and would swapping the props help the situation any. Thanks again
105/ed Its all ripped apart so now i have the 31 down and the avs down and it has been clear and warm but thats my luck!! i have everything here but the boxes. I have someone very intrested in the 31 so i am working on putting the mags in it. I lost your number so if you could pm me with It i will call you. It looks like i will end up with those 32S we talked about also a pair of 34S maybe. james
James your lucky, my boat is put away for the winter. It was a good summer the boat ran great. the only problems I had was
with the blower belts slipping. I had to put the larger pulleys on it but with the boost at 4 psi it still ran 108. I may be down your way in the spring and may be looking for a ride. ed |
Scarab what is your setup? and how are you measuring 108 mph ? GPS? what drives props horsepower etc?
Two years ago Mrs Outlaw and I witnessed a 33 AVS roll while performing a high-speed turn in calm water.
A couple of weeks ago I saw a 33 AVS for sale on “boattraderonline”. The selling dealer made public the fact that the 33 AVS he was advertising had been rolled but no damage was done (The 33 AVS I saw on boattraderonline was not the 33 AVS Mrs Outlaw and I saw roll two years ago). Makes me wonder. |
rollin' 33s'
Outlaw 29,I have heard about the 33 AVS'rolling problem.I think that I will stick with my 31'Scarab..........at least until I move up to a 38'Scarab??????HMMMMMM
