A question for Archer Marine
Hey Dan, was the #89 Scarab the same boat as the #286? If so, why the change in paint and numbers ? If different then what happened to the 286? Thank you again for taking the time to answer these questions.

That's Bettys second Scarab the old Mich Light 89 she sold to Ron Herschberger and that was his number the boat was painted black and called Revenge and stuffed and broke the nose off and was repaired later named Soccess painted yellow and then sold at auction to Bull dog who started a resto on it then sold it to someone in MA that is restoring it to look like the original KAAMA boat. Also in that picture the boat had KAAMA drives installed but they went right back to the number III speedmasters
|
So this boat replaced the 89? The 89 was sold to Ron and was renamed Revenge then Soccess and is now being restored in Ma. So the #286 is the one that is being restored in New York and it is also being painted to look like the black 89? Do I have that correct?
|
yes that boat was built in 1979 the first Kaama Scarab was built in 1977 and that's the one we cant find anywhere. The boat being restored was the white mich light boat number 89 all of Betty's Scarabs were number 89 unless she National Champion the US 1

|
So the 1977 was first Michelob Light , then it was the black Kaama, then Revenge and is now missing?
The 1979 white Kaama is the one that is being restored in New York to look like the black Kaama. Awfully confusing for 2 boats |
Dan are all three of those in the above photo the same? I see some differences, but would like to be sure, thanks

An interview with the current owner about the restoration. Mentions having a new deck. |
No the boat in the first picture Kaama is the 1977 boat that has been lost for years. the picture of the Revenge boat is the 1979 version that was painted white and named Mich Light. Its also the same boat that was the white Kaama boat number 286 that why the had to repair the deck on the boat in NY. it was build much lighter than the 77 version. and there were some other differences between the boats as far as paint wind screen. Regards Dan

What / where was the 1977 boat last seen?
|
early 80s in an old race video under a different name with the engines hatches still painted with the number plaques and KUDU RACING TEAM. But I am still looking for it so don't want to give to much info. Its to bad that Jewsbury didn't want my help with his paint layout he's got the deck painted like the 77 boat not the 79 but o well ! Regards Dan
|
And just to set the record right the 1977 boat was never the Mich Light boat it was always KAAMA. Joey Ipelito had a 38 that was Mich Light number 3
|
Joey's is the one with the angled corners on the fairing? Supposedly it's been nicely restored and has been for sale a while.

I believe that he just took a quick mold off the original deck but he cut the front off and only replaced the front deck, that is what I was told. I don't like just cutting the deck in half we cored our decks from underneath so we didn't have to remove them a lot more work but much stronger deck.
