Scarab II Value?
Hey everyone,
So my father has had this boat for about 10 or more years now and he is at a stage where he cant work on it anymore and I have obtained it so i can try and clean it up and sell it for him. The issue is i have zero idea what these things go for, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Ill try and get pictures either today or tomorrow to show the condition but for what it is it seems to be a pretty good starting platform for someone. Its a 1985 Scarab II with twin 454's, velvet drive transmissions, TRS Outdrives, full interior with a working sink and refrigerator, captains call exhaust diverters? and its on a triple axle trailer. The motors start and run just fine and the left outdrive works just fine but at some point in its storage someone tried to remove the lower gears in the right outdrive and broke the case. I have all the parts from the outdrive as they never got them but new owner would just need to buy a new lower case. I'm sure there are tons of other little things here and there to pick out but again it did go into the water just fine and had zero issues before he parked it several years ago. My guess is... price of the running powertrain, and trailer? 8-12k ? Have not seen more pictures but rough guess...

Several years ago and today is a long time. Seals shrink, wood rots, engines get stuck, hoses get weak, bellows crack. A boat needing an TRS outdrive is going to be $1000 less. And looking at the tarp covering it and it being in Washington ( a state that freezes) id say that water sat and froze in the bilge. Just looking at the pic of the transom and guessing the condition of the rest of the boat, Id say a quick sell price would be $3000. To get it ready for the water, your going to have to spend $1000 on batteries, water pump kits, raw water inlet hoses, bellows, gear lube, engine oil, oil filters, fuel filters, nav lights, safety equipment, and then anywhere from 500 to 1000 for an outdrive. No matter what anybody says about their Scarab being solid, if it is more than 20 years old, they are rotting. Wellcraft did a HORRIBLE job sealing the stringers and any hull penetrations.

the videos are from last summer and its had heaters in the engine compartment all winter and i have brand new batteries in the boat. I mean i get it things sit and "rot" as you say but i mean at your price of 3 grand id be better off pulling the engines and selling them and then selling the outdrives would be my guess right?

I actually went out tonight after work and hooked water up and the engines fired up without very much help needed so that’s cool

Cool old offshore, without verifying the condition of the stringers/transom for moisture (like previously stated Wellcraft was horrible at sealing things up) the hull is a liability and a potential buyer will budget worst case scenario. When I bought my 1990 Century a couple of years ago I paid what I felt the drive train and trailer was worth with zero value on the hull.
