Scarab 38' videos...

Why not a thread with videos of Scarab 38' boats. Starting off with a Scarab 377 and Swedish electric jetboards. What's not to like?

BadHabit, anyone know where that ended up? It was pretty badass when it was around here.

About 10 years ago I guess it was sold by convicted big-time weed dealer and kidnapper Todd Beckman, from St. Louis, to the dad of signature BadHabit38 here on OSO.

It then seemed they sold it just a season later. I heard a rumor that it ended up in Havasu, AZ, but I haven't seen it out here in the South West.

We can't forget about the twenty million dollar boat. There's some good shots in this video. If/when I make a video. I will not be dressed like Don Johnson. I'll have to get some young kid to play the part. :)

You're building the most recognizable offshore boat in existence, I think the pastel t-shirt and white sport coat, pants and sandals are required dress code to pilot the boat!

Sandals!? Don't you mean sockless feet with dockers? :) And don't forget the thin sock tie too. :)

I know outboards are more dependable, less service involved, more economical. More practical in all ways. BUT, the rumble of big block Chevrolets cancels all that sensible crap out. I like your boat flashgordon!

hblair 11-26-2021 10:48 AM

Ok here's some of my '79 Scarab 300 after we put 256 weiand blowers on the motors. These are the same motors I'll be running in the 38, except they're 496's now, different cams, and TBS 8:71's

flashgordon 11-26-2021 01:59 PM

sounds sweet hblair.....
and thanks for the like...
what drives are u running???
i have trs...dont think they can handle any more power..
i was told by my engine machne shop my motors are about 675 -700
boat has run 84...

i will sell it...make me an offer..hahaha

hblair 11-26-2021 05:18 PM

On that boat we were running TRS, but I didn't know til the end that the left drive was not the same ratio as the right drive. Never could figure out why the left engine seemed less powerful that the right side, til after we got back from the bahamas when I broke the left u joint I decided to check the ratio on a whim and there was the answer to why the boat never seemed quite right. It would still run 70 with a wrong ratio outdrive. I'm hoping for mid 80's with the boat I'm building. Motors are supposed to be 650-725hp with arnesons.
Sorry larslindroth, I just remembered this thread is supposed to be 38' scarab videos, my bad.

Thank you for all the great videos. Always had Panteras but when I was a kid I remember these KV’s brand new at the marina and it was love at first site. Timeless design and still one of my favorites Reminds me of the classic offshore period and man I miss it. When the 70’s where flying and 80’s where rare territory. But they would run in crap these new 100mph boats only dream of

Well, I do like the look of Gordy's 38 Excel, but when I started to check out all his videos it started to go sideways, and then when your 300 came to haunt this thread too I knew it would be trouble. Oh well, it's 'Turkey Weekend' so I guess I should be thankful that any Scarab videos get posted, even though the two of you are causing double trouble and Gordy managed to turn everything upside down at the end of the #001 test run. I sure believe both of you'd be better served by triple outboards!

Test run #003

Thanks, I hope to get back on the 38 soon. I haven't been able to work on it in several weeks.
