Larry Smith's personal ex. 1987 Team Scarab 38.

Larry's boat deserves its own thread. That our legendary hero owned his twin diesel Scarab 48 for about 10 years is pretty much common knowledge, but which Team Scarab boats

did he build for himself over the years is probably few fellows that know outside his immediate family. Thankfully we Team Scarab fans and owners are still fortunate to be able to turn to

always helpful Dan MacNamara at Team Archer Marine in Costa Mesa, California when we are in need to get the best possible service for, or professionally restore, our beloved

Scarab boats. Not only does Dan have built sheets for almost each and every Team Scarab boat that Larry Smith ever built, he's also one of the few that grasps what is often the only

approach that makes sense when repairing or restoring a specific boat due to the often state-of-the-art building techniques and materials Larry used for each specific boat. I recognize almost

everything on this 1987 38 footer of his, from my 1990 31 footer, but I bet there are small but important differences. I certainly hope that I one day in the very near future will be able to get Dan's

help to figure out what is needed to get my 31 rigged with a couple more powerful motors and freshened up with new finish and equipment so as to serve my family for years to come.

Team Archer Marine is both a living museum for Team Scarab owners and a cutting-edge performance marine shop. We 'Left-Coast' Scarab owners are truly blessed, and so will the owner of

Larry's ex. 38' certainly be!

P.S. The 1987 Team Scarab 38 is sold by a very knowledgable Scarab boat broker and the Team Archer Marine photos are courtesy of the shop's nice social network pages. D.S.

Sweet boat, I've been drooling over it. How fast does it run with the stock 502 mags? Are they stock 502 mags? Would the dealer or seller be able to help source a trailer for it?

The broker, Joe, has done business with Dan at Team Archer before and knows a lot of boat industry people. He used to race a Scarab a few years back and I'm sure he'd

be able to assist in finding a buyer a great used trailer for the boat. The boat is probably at least 1,000 lbs lighter than a Wellcraft 38 Thunder. The most impressive thing

about Larry's Team Scarab boats are how incredibly strong and solid they are and feel in comparison to regular production boats. It probably runs upper 60s with stock 502s.

Dan MacNamara obviously knows the boat well and he might chime in. This gotta be one of the absolute most interesting classic performance boats currently for sale.

Thanks Tank. The boat runs in the high 60s to low 70s depending on the load. Its a clean old school boat motors are fairly fresh and drives were gone through when the motors were done. the gentleman that owned it was a good friend of Larrys. its a nice piece Someone will get a nice boat . Regards Dan

This boat is cool. I like it a lot

I came pretty close to going for it, but I really didn't want all that carpet and fabric in the cabin. Other than that it checked a lot of boxes on my wish list. Something about a plain white boat with plain black motors.
