33AVS real world numbers

Currently been working on a 33AVS project. It’s time to buy power. I originally wanted to build 540’s but with the money that’s already been spent that might have to be down the road. I came across a pair of low hours 496HO’s. Wondering what the performance will be with this power and whats the best props to run? TIA

28b1’s and 74-75

496 HO's, not HO Mag? Kind of like a Vette with a 4 banger in it.

do you know the performance with 496 HO’s 425hp. Not the 375hp mag motors.

Back to the numbers above then. Friend had a 33 with 415hp 502 mag mpi’s. Right at 74 on radar.

My 33 avs 496 HO has seen 82mp/h (gps) on top with basically no fuel/cargo and good chop, it will however run 77-78 anyday of the week no matter the weight, has stock bravo xr drives with stock bravo1 30p props spinning in, freshwater, quite pleased with those numbers!

Your turning stock bravo one 30s with 496 hos? how many rpms? Thats pretty impressive. on my 33 w butchered up 28s I saw 77/78 w 500 efis on rev limiter, with labbed 30s I saw 85, with box stock 30s I saw 81/82 ish under best conditions and it struggled to pull past 79/80 mph with them with 500s, Smitty

Rpm is right around 4900, my boat is lighter than standard due to a carbon fibre engine hatch (no sunpad), that saves me around 200 lb, perhaps that's the key to my speed, speed is verified with several different gps;s though.
Entire hatch is 30 lb with gas pistons and latches and you can walk on it no problem!

Scarabeman,

Don't believe there is such a beast as a "496HO (non MAG)". I believe it's either a "496MAG" or a "496MAG HO". The HO is higher output than the MAG.

Thanks. Brad.

Smitty,

Net really apples to apples, but there's a 30' PQ on with HOs on Cumberland that runs a solid 82-84. I don't know what props he's got. I'm guessing 30s.

Thanks. Brad.

I would opt for a pair of take out 540s. Your hull with an old school pair of healthy 540s will run 90 plus and probably won't cost much more than the Merc 496MAG HOs.

496/425 a guess 75-80mph perfect conditions ?Good motors 496 FWC sensors if kept up 1000 hours easy good luck!

I’ve been looking for awhile now. 540’s was my original choice for power. Had a deposit on a pair last year that needed to be assembled and got screwed over by a guy out in Michigan. The other pairs that I’ve found either have huge cams, big unnecessary carbs ect. For what they are asking for the pair and then still have to tear them down to swap cams, new carbs and dyno it isn’t worth the price at the end. I’m closing in on a pair of 500EFI motors with low original hours. Waiting on engine scans and compression tests.

Yes custom power is more of a risk for sure. I got lucky on a boat last year with custom power. The boat looks stock but is an absolute beast and so far very reliable. We'll see if this year is different. Your hull is very efficient and will pay dividends with more power.

A 30' PQ with 496 HO's running 82-84? He needs to use a GPS and not the pitot speedometer for an accurate speed measurement.

Rookie,

That was GPS. I know we can’t catch him, by a good bit, and we are 76-77, maybe 78 on a good day, GPS.

Thanks. Brad.

You gotta remember those powerquests are one of the fastest best built boats out there. And that’s not just brad Christy’s over inflated opinion since he became owner of one. Referred to by many as lottery winner boats.

IGetWet,

Yeah... Not at all what I've said. Ever.

Come to wreck another thread, have you?

Get over yourself.

Now, SHUSH. Let the adults talk prop/engine combos, would you?

Thanks. Brad.

IGetWet 03-15-2024 06:30 AM

A thread is ruined as soon as you start barfing in it.

Go ahead, share with everyone how you as an “adult” playing with your toy boats translates to vast experience with 30+ ft powerboats. Go ahead… can’t wait. :food-smiley-007:

MTB,

I truly am sorry we have to share space with idiots like this.

Thanks. Brad.
