1995 29' Anything to look out for?
As the title suggests, it looks like I'm going to check out a '95 29 Scarab next weekend. Is there anything in particular I should be looking out for? Any known problem areas to be aware of?
The boat is a twin 350 model, only 200 hours. Other than that, the broker couldn't give me too much info. It is bottom painted, and was used in salt water. What's a good guess on what it's worth? They're asking $35K. Nada says avg. retail is 32, low is 25. I'm figuring the bottom paint alone puts it closer to low, even if the boat is mint. |
I have a 96 I run in salt water. Mine has a supercharged 502 in it. I would check for corrosion on the wiring back by the engine. Check the wiring by the starters if you can see them. I had a friend with twins that the shifter cables kept binding and breaking.
Have someone do a compression check on the engines and also check exhuast for corrosion. I flushed mine at least for 20 minutes before I put back in storage. Check the drive oil, engine oil. Check where the porta-potty is, in front by the V-birth for mildew etc... Anymore questions, feel free to email me! If it all works out, Welcome to the Scarab team!!! |
Thanks for the info. If it looks good initially, I'll have a survey done, but these are good things for me to check out beforehand.
What speeds do you see with your set up? |
