21' Scarab Prop
 

I am in need of a new prop for my Scarab. I realize is is alot smaller than almost all of the ones here, but I could use some help. i purchased it at the end of last season and was only able to use it a few times. Due to intake leak, carb need rebuilding and exhaust leak I wasn't able to get a good rpm reading at WOT. I could get around 5000 with a 19 pitch Mich. prop that the prop guy said was so thin it was bending under load. It just felt like it was slipping alot. I am running a merc. 5.7 with an alpha drive. Merc. prop finder says to run a Mirage Plus 21p. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Find someone that has one and try it out before you buy it. That prop does sound about right.

My old 87 Scarab 1 sounds about like your set up. I was running a MIRAGE 21 - 23 prop. I had a little bit of motor work- not much.
That was 10 years ago. That"s best I can remember. Sounds about right.

I have a Scarab 21’ with a Merc 350 Magnum and Alpha drive (gear ratio 1,47). Currently spinning a 21” Laser II prop (with the vent holes plugged) which gives me 4600 rpm at WOT. I also have a 24” Turbo prop that only gives 4100 rpm (surprisingly with the same top speed).
